The 'annoying' air is CO2, and it needs to dispense into the air, not be kept from doing so or go back into you. There are masks that may be quieter for you, but don't block the vents or you'll rebreathe CO2, which is not a good idea. Worth a try as long as my wife is on standby with an oxygen tank...
