Re: Side Effects of CPAP
. My apnea is rather mild (about 17 events an hour without CPAP)ic. Just to emphasize what others have said.. an ahi of 17 means you're not sleeping, you're getting a series of *short* naps all night long, you're not even getting a whole 4 minutes before something happens. And again, when I discuss...

Re: Side Effects of CPAP
I don’t have much to add except my PCP looked at my AHI of 16-17 and a decent chunk of desats in the mid to low 80s and said I had mild apnea too. It doesn’t sound like that’s how it’s actually classified by the experts, however! If your machine has an EPR (or A-flex) function, raising your minimum...

Re: Side Effects of CPAP
Let me give you an example....mild, moderate or severe are just categories based on numbers. They had to come up with something for a base or standard to go by. By normal standards you are on the low end of moderate....despite your doctor telling you that yours is mild. There's more to it than just...

Re: Cleaning heated hose
I've been drying mine all day into the night and there's still condensation in the hose. Is it safe to use? Yes. It's safe to use. The worst that could happen is you might snort a little water or it makes a bit of a racket. I have snorted a lot of water when I get condensation in my mask. It's a ti...

Fenianfield, it’s good to hear you’re feeling somewhat better. As in less dizzy? Once you get going with Oscar, I am certain the people here can help you understand what’s going on and perhaps make some suggestions that will help. Please let us know if you have questions as you delve into Oscar. We...

Re: Cleaning heated hose
If you have problems with controlling the humidity, and have condensation left inside your hose after you arise each use, there is some potential for pathogen growth, especially molds. The risk is not high, but there is some risk. In that case, it would be smart, I think, to occasionally at least l...

Re: Cleaning heated hose
Maybe I'm wrong but I wash my heated hose once a week. Squeeze the juice of one lemon, dilute with a little water and I do it slide along the hose. Then, rinsing thoroughly under running water. I hang the hose to drain it until the evening. Before using, if necessary, I dry the electrical contacts ...

Re: Side Effects of CPAP
17 AHI is not "mild" sleep apnea, it's moderate, especially with desaturations. That's a little bit of denial talking. Not saying this to be rude, but you have to get real about your need for CPAP. Often people complain of side effects (and yes, what you experience is real, not saying it's not) bec...

Re: Side Effects of CPAP
Dizziness can result from a variety of things. Has your doctor ruled out sinus infection? I've seen an ENT a number of times and he has never mentioned sinus infection, although my nasal passages are constantly stuffed up Where is the logic in going to an ENT, and not mentioning a STUFFY NOSE? Reme...

Re: Side Effects of CPAP
Wouldn't my events show that I'm having apnea events though? There's more to sleep disordered breathing than just apnea events. There's also snores and flow limitations that can affect our sleep quality. Without seeing in more detail what your machine is reporting I don't know if you need more pres...

Re: Side Effects of CPAP
Sounds like your min. pressure could use a bump up to e.g. 7 - see if that makes a difference because what you're experiencing still sounds like untreated apnea to me. Gonna see how tonight goes and if it goes not great again then I'll ramp it up to 7. Wouldn't my events show that I'm having apnea ...

Re: Difficulty getting started
I'm curious to see how this ends up. I, too, have low oxygen upon sleeping and was told that CPAP may or may not help with it and if it doesn't then I may need oxygen as well. I didn't used to wake up tired either but it all caught up to me this year and now I'm on CPAP
