Re: Mask suggestions for a friend

Thanks. Yeah, a chinstrap was a thought, though I doubt she'd use it since she hadn't taken to even using the machine until encouraged by my experiences. I've been fortunate to never need to use a chinstrap myself. I do know of some neck braces someone posted about some months ago here, that may be ...

Mask suggestions for a friend

Howdy all. I have a friend who is having trouble acclimating to her CPAP machine and am looking for thoughts on masks she should be looking at. She currently uses a Respironics DreamWear. Her problem indicated to me is that she wakes up every hour when using the CPAP. Says her mouth fills up with ai...

Re: Nose bleeds

And don't give him Afrin - there are enough other similar things that he could try. Afrin is addictive - the more you use the more you need, and I doubt that he 'needs' Afrin 'only'. I'm sure the pharmacist could suggest something else, but many here use Flonase. My son takes Flonase for allergies ...

Re: Nose bleeds

I'm a bit prone to nosebleeds myself, though not to the extent that cauterization was called for. I use Polysporin when I have a day where it hits me. I wouldn't recommend using this right before using CPAP though. Use it first thing in the morning, maybe again mid-afternoon. Settle for using nasal ...

Re: Glands in neck jaw and cpap

I am a singer and have had vocal issues and swollen neck glands for about as long as I have been on my cpap. I have had EVERYTHING checked. I went off my cpap for about 2 weeks and noticed my voice getting better and the swelling went down. The minute I started back on my cpap, neck was swollen and...

Re: time for a new machine?

I went through something like this recently. My case was stable and under control until, out of the blue, it wasn't starting middle of last year. And this was on a machine barely a year old at the time. There was no apparent reason for why this happened, and it's still not clear a year later. I'm ba...

Re: Need an opinion on my current charts please

Well I'm 4 weeks into this and my AHI has consistently been under 1.0, usually significantly under. I can confidently say my case has never been under control this well since I began over 10 years ago. My P.A. is going to lose her freaking mind when I have my next followup. But that's not even the b...

Re: Anyone Switched back to Airsense after Aircurve?

Even with the same settings, same pressure range, same support, I'm getting more CA events with my aircurve. Can someone explain why that might be? With my airsense my ahi was regularly averaging below 1.5, with my aircurve it regularly averages above 2.5....I just don't get it. I would switch back...

Re: Frustrated living wife needs understanding and some honest knowledge

So with that background in mind, while I don't know what a "normal" anything is, I haven't ever had the issues your husband is having, nor does my wife have any complaints.[.,..] but I would wager his problems are more rooted in his lifestyle for the reasons RRR laid out. I wish I could offer you m...

Re: Losing weight - increased AHI

I actually just went through this myself. You likely will need to reduce your EPAP pressure to eliminate those. I'm not really comfortable giving more specific advice, but just to give you some hope/perspective, take a look at the charts I posted recently to make sure I was on the right track. My AH...

Re: Frustrated living wife needs understanding and some honest knowledge

I can offer some perspective as a man with a particularly severe case of low T (in the low 100's) and sleep apnea. both of which I have clearly had my entire life but weren't diagnosed until my mid to late 30's. I'm also a rather large, overweight guy myself, largely due to these disorders. While I'...

Re: Need an opinion on my current charts please

Thanks ya'll. Yeah, after trialing the reduced IPAP level to 14, I was about to drop the EPAP down next since I had recently read that tidbit about it being the likely culprit for centrals, then I decided it'd make more sense and be more expeditious to just take advantage of the VAuto feature, let i...

Need an opinion on my current charts please

Howdy all. I need an opinion on some changes I made to my machine and the results before I continue on with them. Some quick background here first for perspective. My machine settings had been 16/8 for several years now and my case was considered well under control. I hadn't habitually checked my AH...

Re: Increased Clear airway apneas

If EPAP was the cause of the centrals he would be seeing centrals all night. 13 isn't really all that high in the grand scheme of things. He may need the higher EPAP to prevent the airway collapse...I know people needing 18 EPAP to prevent the OAs and hyponeas and it doesn't always cause centrals. ...

Re: Need recommendation for minimal skin contact masks

The Evora looks like it would have more overall skin contact than nasal pillows would rather than less, even though it's spread out to a different area. Here's a video review where you get a really good look at it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPdGs2cgL3w
