I just did a very simple fix for this. The button cover pried off easily with a blunt knife (to avoid damaging the rubber gasket) then the rubber gasket/buttons just lifts out. It looked clean inside but, just to be sure, I dabbed all the button contacts with a cotton bud dipped in nail polish remov...
