Re: Old-timer getting new machine. What is today's Cadillac?

Just scheduled with DME. They were already planning on giving me the S9 autoset. Glad I didn't have to fight with them.

Thanks again, everyone. I'll post an update on moving into this generation's XPAP technology.

Re: Old-timer getting new machine. What is today's Cadillac?

Wow, such quick responses--thanks so much! The DME hasn't even called me back yet. OK, I see the new Philips Respironics System One. According to cpap.com, there is no software for it. Any ideas about that? My concern about Respironics is their history of clamping down on software. When I started wi...

Old-timer getting new machine. What is today's Cadillac?

Fellow hose heads: I've been using a RemStar Auto with A-flex for about 6 years. My old EncorePro software is dying. The HMO says I'm due for a new machine--YAY! I've read many reviews and comments and it looks like the ResMed S9 with humidifier might be a better choice than the Respironics PR Auto ...

Noisy UM

I agree about the exhaust port cover. Having used the UM FF for 3 years, I can tell you that some exhaust port covers whistle even when properly seated, while others don't. I keep recycling my "quiet" cover--placing it on noisy new masks after I get them. The other common noisemaker people have repo...

Mask replacement

My BC/BS HMO allows for mask replacement every 3 months. I have noticed that the cushion (Ultramirage FF) tends to lose its "stuff" after about 3-4 months--increasing leakage, etc. (Probably due to my oily Italian skin--even with daily washing and using a cloth cushion-cover!!) Since I can get the w...

Sleeping: While I have no experience with surgery since being diagnosed, I can report similar occurrences before being diagnosed when, during recovery, my O2 dropped low enough to trigger the monitors, and I was told to "BREATHE!" Looking back now, I know this was my undiagnosed OSA, which everyone ...

ICD (Diagnosis) Codes for OSA

An amendment to the previous post from Maskedmechanic: There are several codes for obstructive sleep apnea: 780.51 Insomnia with sleep apnea 780.53 Hypersomnia with sleep apnea 780.57 Other and unspecified sleep apnea Clearly the difference is whether or not you're sleeping TOO MUCH (hypersomnia) or...

1998 wasn't a good year?

Fred, The dates on the interaction page are generated when you do the downloads--using the computer's calendar/clock. This is why the page shows the current date. The REPORT uses the machine's calendar/clock to generate dates--the Encore database entries include date/time of each event. I would thin...

Docs only know so much

Here's my observation. I revisited my pulmonologist in March, about 2 years after our initial meeting and sleep study. My goal for the visit was to get a script for an APAP--and to NOT repeat the sleep study. He was all for the APAP, but when I told him I wanted the RemStar Auto with CFLex, he told ...

Newsgrouper: I totally agree that you shouldn't make 'tweaking' decisions based on one night's data (can you say "overnight sleep study"??? ) I have tracked my data daily since getting my auto in March. Most pressure adjustments were based on a least a week's worth of data--except one try at lowerin...

Series II Full Face vs. UltraMirage FF

Newsgrouper: Allow me to weigh in on this one--I used a ResMed Series II full face for 18 months, then switched to the ResMed UltraMirage full face in March. The switch was brought on by increased eye leakage from the Series II that became unbearable. After a month of the Ultra, and fighting nightly...

Different masks...

I know of no way to enter mask info into the Encore system. One way to track data from different masks would be to use separate Smartcards for each mask. That will allow you to print out separate data for each mask and then compare reports. Just remember to label the Smartcard with which mask it goe...

I have an encore pro SmartCard. I was under the impression that my machine will show any types of events. You mentioned that Only the REMstar Pro 2 with C-Flex will monitor my events... My doctor perscribed a machine that would record my events because my initial diagnosis with my sleep study was C...

Mask vs Talking

Chicago, Lombard here... Your CPAP machine's smart card only records compliance data--hours used, nights used--no event data like obstructions. The Respironic RemStar Pro 2 CPAP and the AutoPAP smart cards record events. So, talk away! Other advice: Get/use the heated humidifier--it REALLY makes a d...

Data access

It is my understanding that the only way to gain access to the data is to download it from the smartcard. Unless your DME will download your card data and send/give you the database files (ROFLH ) you will need the Encore Pro software and card reader to use Derek's routines. Personally, I am excited...
