Re: Seizures during sleep
The trouble with sleep neurologists is that if they don't catch one of these episodes on PSG, then it didn't happen. The alleged incidents will be blamed on "your perception of your half-awake symptoms" as being faulty. The probability of obtaining EEG corroboration on events that only occur a few t...

Re: APAP experiment without official OSA/UARS
Maybe this? http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=177820&p=1335547#p1335527 On another note, what PS are you using? Have you tried raising it? I noticed that post but got the impression that particular class of squiggles occurs when flow rate is near zero. But mine seem to occur near peak exp...

Re: APAP experiment without official OSA/UARS
Hi again all, Another question: what does a double peaked exhale portion of the flow curve indicate? I attached an example of what I'm talking about with weird exhales circled. I also wanted to share that on Saturday night my power went out right before bedtime and stayed off for 12 hours, so I slep...

Re: Maxillary Expansion (DOME) to enable effective CPAP treatment?
I had non-surgical maxillary expansion with ALF appliances. There are a few other non-surgical options as well offered by airway-focused dentists. The effects aren't as extreme as surgery, and slower of course, but less invasive. Do you feel better now? Were you using CPAP before and after? Yes, bu...

Re: Help with Brain Zaps / Head Shock
I had insomnia for 12 years and had brain zaps for the last few years of it. I wasn't on anything at the time, certainly wasn't withdrawing from SSRIs. No doc (GP, neurologist, sleep doc) ever had an answer for me about the cause, but I believe in retrospect that it was just extreme systemic stress ...

Re: APAP experiment without official OSA/UARS
Thanks to all for the input, I will plan to raise all of the above...min EPAP, max IPAP, and PS...one at a time, and slowwwwly. Both the Autoset and the VAuto use the same EasyBreathe(tm) algorithm, and deliver the pressure change on inspiration in virtually identical manners, I've charted this with...

Re: APAP experiment without official OSA/UARS
So I sprang for the VAuto and love it! I think the "feel" is quite different from the AutoSet, and more natural. I started with settings to best mimic my Autoset settings and noticed that the VAuto applies pressures ~1 cm lower than Autoset yet does a better job at squashing flow limitations. I stil...

Re: APAP experiment without official OSA/UARS
From this night, it looks like if you raised min pressure to 9 you would end up with pretty stable pressure. Rather than lower the ceiling of max pressure, in other words, raise the floor. Keep in mind that you may end up needing a bilevel; as in, pressure support that your machine cannot provide w...

Re: APAP experiment without official OSA/UARS
I appreciate your replies, thanks all. I experimented with raising pressure and found that pressure over 10 and/or high swings in pressure tended to wake me up. Not sure if that's because I'm new to PAP or because my brain is extra sensitive to pressure. Anyway, I've been comfortable at min 7.0, max...

Re: APAP experiment without official OSA/UARS
Thanks all for the suggestions for what pressure settings to try. I'm going to bump them up tonight and see how it goes. Smart, and is an approach consistent with this research study , which documents using APAP machines to diagnose UARS. Really cool, good to know. Makes me think my strategy here is...

APAP experiment without official OSA/UARS
Hi experts! I’m new and seeking opinions on whether I demonstrate enough flow limitation to warrant trying PAP therapy. I’m 36/F with a long history of sleep onset insomnia, EDS, restless legs, and nocturia. After years of various failed strategies/pharmaceuticals, I finally recently had an in-lab s...
