Re: Weight loss drug trial claiming to reduce Sleep Apnea. Hmmm?

I don’t see this as an alternative to CPAP anyway - reducing events by 60% is great, but that leaves the other 40% that need to be treated. Also, the testing was only on people that qualified as obese, so is not applicable to the rest of the sleep apnea population. Add in the side effects of the med...

Re: AirCurve 10 bilevel vs Airsense 10

The main difference between the two machines is the pressure support/EPR - you have PS of 4 on the Aircurve compared to the equivalent of 3 on the Airsense. That difference likely results in better control of flow limitations with the Aircurve, which should leave you feeling more rested with the Air...

Re: AirCurve 10 bilevel vs Airsense 10

The only thing I would change is the ramp - 45 minutes is way too long in my opinion since you really get no therapy at such a low pressure. Personally, I use a 5 minute ramp (just to get comfortable and to be sure everything is in place), and even then I use a ramp pressure right around my minimum ...

Re: AirCurve 10 bilevel vs Airsense 10

If you were to scroll down slightly on the Oscar data on the left side of the screen, it would show your machine settings. However, based on the data, it looks like you had the airsense set up with an EPR of 3 (the maximum on that machine), but with the minimum pressure set so low, the EPR wasn’t ac...

Re: AirCurve 10 bilevel vs Airsense 10

Depending on your Aircurve settings, it might be possible to set up the Airsense to provide a reasonable approximation of the same therapy. The two main limitations I am aware of, are Airsense is limited to a maximum exhalation relief (EPR) of 3cm h2o, while the Aircurve can go much higher. Also, th...

MA companies are in the business to make a profit, that profit has to come from the 65+ gang's premiums.
Not necessarily, profit could also be made by kickbacks from providers.

Or by disputing/refusing to pay claims that original Medicare might approve and pay.

Re: New to CPAP - I have a few questions

Assuming you are using the resmed airtouch f20 mask, resmed says it doesn’t need cleaning as long as it gets replaced regularly (monthly). Per the resmed website: The UltraSoft memory foam cushion doesn’t require cleaning as long as it’s replaced regularly. You have the option of wiping it down with...

Thank you. I had heard similar. "Person is already on therapy" so it's up to the doc to decide appropriate device.

Was yours Medicare thing? Thank you!
My original sleep testing and machine purchase was under private insurance, but the switch to bilevel was under Medicare.

Re: Moving from APAP to Bi-Level and Insurance....

I'm just wondering what they are going to want for documentation. I just made that transition myself - as far as I can tell, all that was required was a diagnostic (not titration) sleep study that showed a need for treatment, and a something from the doctor stating that regular cpap/APAP treatment ...

Re: Improving CPAP sleep quality

I completed the questionnaire, but honestly don’t see much value in it. The questions were simply too general and didn’t point to reasons why people might find CPAP therapy to be easy/difficult or why masks might be uncomfortable.

The flow limitations could be causing micro-arousals too, which might lead to not feeling refreshed but still having low treated AHI.

Re: suggestions for newer full face mask, no phillips

The F20 fits over the nose and mouth, resting on the bridge of your nose, where the F30 covers the mouth, but fits under the nose. Some find one more comfortable, some prefer the other. The F30i has the hose attach at the top of the headgear rather than at your nose or mouth like the F30 - again, so...

Re: suggestions for newer full face mask, no phillips

I alternate between the resmed AirTouch memory foam one) and the Resmed F30. The F30 works better for those nights I toss and turn, but the F20 tends to be more comfortable most of the time. I get very few leaks with either one. I couldn’t get the silicone version of the F20 to seal well, but others...

Re: does a mask liner ruin the AHI and mask fit readouts?

Mask fit readings are based on leak rates, so if the liner reduces leaks, it will also improve the mask fit readings. A certain amount of leakage is “built in” to the Resmed chart on OSCAR and on the Resmed machines, so if you have one of those (it would be helpful if you were to fill in the equipme...

Re: OT: Medicare Advantage Plans

CPAP is covered under Part B, which seems a bit weird to me.

You can’t sign up 6 months prior - the sign up period is 3 months prior, plus the month you turn 65, plus another 3 months. You can sign up any time during that period and not have to worry about pre existing condition status.
