Why do results take months?

I have been on a CPAP for 24 nights. I've adjusted well to a nasal mask (once I switched from FF) and my AHIs have dropped to a fairly consistent .5. Yet I still get bad headaches that start nightly between 2-4 am. I keep reading that it can take up to three months to experience relief, but this con...

Re: New user experiencing claustrophobia and headaches

You guys! Your encouraging notes mean so much to me! Not only do you give me very useful information that keeps me from feeling overwhelmed by all this, but you do so with empathy and humor. You are kind and friendly and so generous in your support of a stranger. It feels like a virtual hug. Thank y...

Re: New user experiencing claustrophobia and headaches

Thanks for all your hints and encouragement! Interestingly, it was nightly headaches that sent me to the sleep study in the first place. I looked forward to those disappearing. So when the headaches came on sooner and harder with the CPAP, it was very discouraging. The sleep study showed an AHI of 5...

Re: New user experiencing claustrophobia and headaches

Update: Yesterday I exchanged my full face mask for the AirFit nasal mask N20. For the first time in five nights, I was able to keep my mask on all night. It was only slightly intrusive, but I will adapt to that. I hung the hose over and behind my headboard, which keeps it out of my way. As of yet, ...

Re: breathe through nose but sometimes mouth fills with air

These responses are very helpful! I was relieved to learn that this is a "thing" -- and that it can be easily remedied. I am feeling a tad more comfortable with this whole CPAP crap now. So thank you for that. Zonkers- regarding your comment: "could you do us a favor and keep your posts in one threa...

breathe through nose but sometimes mouth fills with air

I am new to this, just four nights in, and my newest issue occurred last night. I have a full face mask and I breathe through my nose. Last night, after about 3-4 hours sleep, my mouth filled with air and puffed out. I exhaled the air, no problem, but it kept happening every few minutes, even though...

Re: New user experiencing claustrophobia and headaches

Yes, I have already figured out how to change the pressure, I just don't want to do anything without a full understanding of exactly what I am doing. For now, I'll just keep asking questions. So here's one--- if I really do need more pressure, then why doesn't my "autoset" machine automatically give...

Re: New user experiencing claustrophobia and headaches

Thank you for asking. I first "practiced" with my mask for over an hour while still awake. That helped me acclimate a bit, but the full face mask still feels restrictive and claustrophobic. I would like to try a nasal mask to see if that makes a difference. Also, most replies here seem to agree that...

Re: New user experiencing claustrophobia and headaches

Thanks for the catch, Zonker.
(I was focusing on the "autoset" part. Also didn't know I have a "for her" machine and mask.)

You people really know how to make a (bewildered) girl feel better.
Thanks so much to all who came to my rescue.
Your responses gave me hope and a smile.

Re: New user experiencing claustrophobia and headaches

I cannot find the instructions on how to add my equipment to my signature. Actually, I found the link that said it would explain, but it did not have anything listed at all except the name of my machine; no way to add that to my profile. Feeling dumb and confused right now.

Re: New user experiencing claustrophobia and headaches

Thank you for your input. I am a total novice and little was explained to me clearly, so after receiving your replies, I tried to learn my machine on my own. -ResMed AirSense 10 -AirFit F20 full face mask -Pressure settings: min 5.0 / max 12.0 / Auto -Start pressure: 4.0 -Ramp time: Auto -Pressure R...

New user experiencing claustrophobia and headaches

Hello. I have a ResMed AirSense 10 with a nose/mouth mask. I understand that it takes a while to adjust to a CPAP, but my concerns do not have to do with mere adjustment. I am experiencing feelings of panic when I wear the face mask. It's like someone is behind me and has covered my nose and mouth a...
