Re: My wife has heard me choking/gasping after one year of usage

Hi luke1981 , By the way , deviated septum isn't necessarily the 'reason' for sleep apnea – especially if you have the kind of rhinitis you describe AND you use a full-face mask. Much more common is 'tongue position in throat' or 'tongue falling back in throat'. And a so-called 'full-face mask' cou...

Re: My wife has heard me choking/gasping after one year of usage

Hi, thanks for your reply. It was NHS, yes. And I agree, the numbers are always good, but my concern is the literal choking that still seems to occur- and that leads my wife to have to rattle me awake. I think maybe I was under the impression that the CPAP would prevent the apneas reaching a stage w...

My wife has heard me choking/gasping after one year of usage

Hi there. I've been using my CPAP for just over a year. In the last few weeks, my wife has heard me choking/gasping for breath while sleeping. She nudges me to wake me up. It was the same sound that encouraged me to first go to the doctor's in the first place (and then get diagnosed with sleep apnea...

Re: AHI varies between 1.5 and 6 from night to night - back sleeping?

Thanks Pugsy, this is useful information. Yes, it was a restless night and when I woke several times, I found myself lying on my back which led me to the belief it was positional. Now I getting into using Sleepyhead, I look back through the last month or so, my obstructive apneas, on average, tend t...

AHI varies between 1.5 and 6 from night to night - back sleeping?

Hi there. Have been using CPAP since mid-February and for the most part have not struggled with using the Resmed and a full face mask. However, my AHI seems to vary up and down from night to night. Sometimes it'll be 2, other times it's around 6. I have a suspicion it's down to back sleeping vs side...

LOW humidity + non heated tube actually helps my nasal passages

Like others here, I suffer from seemingly permanent rhinitis, and a deviated septum. I've been using CPAP for about a month. All the advice suggested using a heated tube and introducing high humidity to deal with nasal dryness (which I had before CPAP). However, I'm gradually noticing that using a n...

Where is technology heading in the CPAP world?

Having just begun using CPAP, are there any schools of thought as to where technology will lead the CPAP machine? Smaller perhaps, more lightweight, wireless? For those with humidifiers, I guess the size would be limited somewhat. Has anyone heard of any murmurings about future technology or, indeed...

New UK user, trying to analyse my results

Hi guys, a pleasure to be here. I'm a 37 year old (non-drinker, non-smoker, not overweight) UK user, and have been on CPAP just 7 nights now. I have a deviated septum, chronic rhinitis, and my Sleep Test registered 21.0 events per hour, putting me in the moderate sleep apnea range. (Though tbh, it w...
