Re: DC events
The "Gala" is a fund raising program. Individual tickets are $1000.00. Oh well. Sorry. But isn't there anything us local people could be doing during that time? Seems a shame to waste such an opportunity. Linda Well, you can check with your local sleep center to see if they are doing any awareness ...

Surely there must be other DC metro area cpaptalkers who might attend and represent the fans of the cpaptalk forum?!?

I have a feeling it was due to audience influance (who was there exactly?). If he said Autopap first, wouldn't a large part of his audience lose revenue? By using the order stated, there were a lot of chances for a provider to make some serious cash. I coordinate that A.W.A.K.E. group. The audience...

Follow the money. It never lies. Just think of all the sleep industry losses if we all just got an auto. Sales would drop cause no one woould need a study every year. Hardly anyone needs a sleep study every year! Unless you have major weight gain or loss or experience symptoms again, there is no ne...

I got my machine and mask back in 1999. I change the filter on the machine whenever. I have washed the mask a few times. I am still using my first mask. The same mask for nearly 6 years and you hardly ever wash it? I'm really surprised that you don't have lots of mask leaks. I can tell a difference...

Re: Cpaps on TV
In and episode of Design Cents (HGTV) the other day the designers actually designed for a man with a cpap . They put it into a nightstand and cut a hold for the electric cord in the back panel. I presume the cpap was used with the front doors open. This is a trivial observation but I was just amaze...

I just went though something very similar. I’ve been on CPAP 1 ½ years and haven’t felt any better. I recently went to a sleep doc and requested a sleep study, my request was denied, although the doc did schedule a follow up appointment for me. At my follow up I requested a prescription for an Auto...

G00fy & Dave, I guess that we need to clean our filters often if we are allergic to stuff?! Jane Yes, filters can be important, especially if you live in an area with lots of dust, have open windows in the summer, have pets in the house, even small children (can you tell we never had kids?) Check y...

Hi LBV, Do what I did. Reasearch as much as you can then get the most up to date equipment available. Make a decision on the unit & mask you want, print out the description on the CPAP.COM web site. Take it to your doctor and say "that's what I want - please refer me to a DME who can supply it at t...

Think Fall for a minute. Go outside in your yard and see all the leaves lying on the ground. There's a slight breeze stirring and an occasional leaf may scoot along the ground, but it's pretty quiet. Now you strap on that fantastic 400 horsepower leaf blower that you just bought at Sears. Turn it on...

Central apneas occur when the brain forgets to tell the body to breathe, so during a central apnea there is NO EFFORT to breathe. While CPAP /bi-PAP are used in patients with major numbers of central apneas, they don't seem to help as much because it is not an issue of the airway collapsing. Central...

Re: Head gear
I have not washed the straps with velcro that attach to the mask yet. Is that what you mean by "head gear" and do you wash that every day? Yes, I wash the straps, the shell and the mask cushion. In other words I dunk the whole thing in the water! I squeeze out the excess water from the straps befor...

Keep in mind that the AHI is the Apnea/Hypopnea Index. Because they both cause arousals and interrupt sleep, they add the events together when creating the AHI. In my own case, I had 17 apneas and 65 hypopneas per hour, and I de-satted as low as 52% even though most of my events are partial airway c...

I use Ivory Dish Detergent in hot water in the bathroom sink. I put the stuff in and let my gear soak while I shower. Then drain and rinse after I'm out of the shower (the gear, that is - I do my rinse in the shower!) I try to do the mask and headgear every day. Occasionally I'll skip a day but I pr...

MELMEL- I was referring to the guest that stated that they knew of a good DME. As a DME I agree you shouldn't be telling folks unless they ask, but a consumer of a DME I think that should be allowed... Sorry, that was me. I hadn't realized I wasn't logged in and it was a quick read and response bef...
