Re: Distinguish between Cheyne-stokes and Periodic Breathing

Dataq1, please show your doctor a typical wax/wane/CA stretch from your flow rate. Also try to quantify, over (say) a two-week period, how many minutes per night exhibit this pattern. Your doctor may find that information helpful. You should really be involving your medical people in this. I think y...

Re: Insane respiratory rate last night, concerned.

While you're at it, could you reformat your charts the next time you post? Include all and only these graphs, plus the left panel: Events Flow rate Leaks Flow limitations Pressure Snores. And squeeze in the respiration rate. Since you are using a fixed pressure, you could actually put RR in place of...

Nice to have two Airsense 10 Autosets! Your new settings are a bit of a puzzle. Feel free to post an Oscar chart with the constant pressure so we can take a collective look.

Re: zonker therapy thread redux: vauto is coming

All told, sounds like a good night! Following Pugsy's advice could have a double benefit: just getting a little more used to your new friend, as well as trying some adjustments. I hope it goes swimmingly!

Re: AHI MUCH HIGHER AFTER EXERCISE

Not sure how the mask pressure matches CAs. Could you say more?

Your machine won’t change the pressure in response to a CA. It responds to OAs, Hs, FLs, and snores.

Re: AHI MUCH HIGHER AFTER EXERCISE

It looks to me as though you slept right through that CA, though of course it's impossible to be sure. "Are you saying that I am waking up to breathe because of build of of CO2?" No, what I was describing was the other way around. A brief arousal (wake-up) followed by a CA. The arousal involved deep...

Re: DoeS OSCAR have data that says when you wake up in the night?

If it's easier than turning the machine off and on, you can either spike a leak or take a couple of quick and very deep breaths. You'll be able to see the leak on your leak graph and the deep breaths on your flow rate. But I recommend what Pugsy suggests. Zoom in to around a 5 minute interval and sc...

Re: Flow Limitations - Min Pressure Too Low?

Michael, like you, I couldn't stand that mask because of the noise of the air moving through the tubes that crossed my face. A couple of ideas. You could use an "at-the-nose" mask along with a hose lift (aka hose stand). The Hose Buddy is very sturdy; the Houdini is not so sturdy but swivels beautif...

Re: AHI MUCH HIGHER AFTER EXERCISE

What an amazing story -- you were thought to be nearing death but had a resounding triumph! It looks to me as though you are doing just fine vis-a-vis sleep breathing. I suppose you could use a recording oximeter if you have any residual concerns, but I don't see a reason to recommend that except yo...

Re: Flow Limitations - Min Pressure Too Low?

I googled your machine, and at this site there's a link to a pdf of the manual: https://www.drivedevilbiss-int.com/products/respiratory/cpap-therapy/163/devilbiss-blue Apparently you can set your machine to provide "SmartFlex," which will lower your exhale pressure. I recommend that you try level 2 ...

Re: AHI MUCH HIGHER AFTER EXERCISE

For a night after swimming, that looks better. Using a nasal clip may be just the ticket. Kudos to you for a good hypothesis and experiment. Let's see whether it holds up. Your machine can't force you to breathe if your breathing stops, but please make your priorities clear to your doctor if the new...

Re: Bipap called for?

I think I know the answer but -- would she tolerate wearing a soft cervical collar? She may be tucking her chin down toward her chest, which can lead to flow limitations. Another possibility: if she uses a high pillow, could she try a lower, fairly firm one?

You are such a good son.
