Re: Frustrated Non-Apnea CPAP User

Actually I'm diagnosed primary insomnia and do not have sleep disordered breathing. I've been an insomniac (diagnosed and in treatment) for over 30 years and started showing signs of insomnia as a baby (wouldn't nap, couldn't sleep through the night, can't sleep during daylight hours, etc). So I'd ...

Re: Frustrated Non-Apnea CPAP User

I believe there are still some breathing issues that can't be fully diagnosed. For example, there are people who have lots of short events that don't qualify as events (too short), but are so frequent that it does cause sleep problems. CPAP often helps, but it is hard to get diagnosed since it does...

Re: Frustrated Non-Apnea CPAP User

I'd still be taking a large amount of medication. Med free since 2012, multiple sleep studies shown 0 breathing issues. It may have been the large amounts of medications that were causing secondary insomnia. WOW the insomnia medications were causing the insomnia! You are so brilliant. Where is your...

Re: Frustrated Non-Apnea CPAP User

So I'd disagree with this statement. The statement is correct. The problem is your doctors diagnosed you with primary insomnia and failed for years to diagnose your sleep-disordered breathing. CPAP only treats breathing. It does not treat primary insomnia. LOL and this kind of ignorance is exactly ...

Re: Frustrated Non-Apnea CPAP User

I find it absolutely fascinating that insomnia can be cured for you by using a CPAP machine. CPAP treats faulty breathing. It doesn't cure faulty breathing. CPAP does not treat primary insomnia. If you have secondary insomnia caused by sleep-disordered breathing, CPAP is good at treating it. Actual...

Re: Frustrated Non-Apnea CPAP User

My new auto seems to be running in the 4 range, but I figured I'd let it go a few weeks before I really started to look at the data. You seem to be doing well, but other than that, there is no reason to wait to look at the daily detail data. Thanks! Mostly it is curiosity. I wonder if I can find an...

Re: Frustrated Non-Apnea CPAP User

While it a little odd to use CPAP for your condition, it's certainly safer than a lot of other things that you might try. If it works for you, fine. BTW, how did you determine your pressure setting? One of my Dr's thought my insomnia could be caused by apnea so recommended a sleep study. I went in ...

Re: Frustrated Non-Apnea CPAP User

Thought I'd give this a little bump! I bought an air sense 10 off @fetou. I need to get it configured to my likes but so far I love the machine. It is so quiet and breathing out is so easy. I might give the nasal pillows a try. I always had trouble breathing out with them with my old machine even wi...

Re: Frustrated Non-Apnea CPAP User

Just wanted to add that I just purchased a travel CPAP machine from Secondwindcpap.com. Not only did they not ask for a prescription (I live in the US), but they sent me an email asking me to respond about whether or not I wanted them to set the pressure and offered to help me set it myself once I ...

Re: Frustrated Non-Apnea CPAP User

I have the Resmed airsense 10 autoset for her and bought it at cpap.com with no prescription. Unfortunately I tried through cpap.com since that is where I sometimes get supplies with no luck. They were my first thought, thankfully though it looks like the alternatives mentioned here are so much che...

Re: Frustrated Non-Apnea CPAP User

For used stuff...the machine itself I just wipe down with some sort of cleaning agent. My favorite is nothing more than an alcohol wipe. Don't ever spray anything onto the machine itself...if you want to use a spray of some sort spray it on a paper towel or cloth and then wipe it down. External sur...

Re: Frustrated Non-Apnea CPAP User

Thank you guys! I hate typing on my phone but when I get back on my laptop. The CL ad I was looking at claims new with full warranty. For used ones do you do anything special to sanitize before use? I don’t have a sanitizer, I’m just religious about wiping everything down and cleaning my hoses. Than...

Frustrated Non-Apnea CPAP User

So I'm a frustrated CPAP user. I'm an insomniac and I've been an insomniac (short sleep cycles, difficult to get rem) since I was a small child. Well over 40 years. I've tried drugs, therapy, behavior modification, specialists, and many other treatments. In Feb 2012 during a sleep study they tried m...
