Re: Mask does NOT leak but Airsense 10 records 60-120 L/min

Between the ResMed APAP machine I used for six months and the Phillips Respironics bipap, I tried out nine different masks, trying to find one that didn't leak. Some leaked worse than others, but the conclusion I reached was that some of the leaks I just couldn't hear. Some leaks just have a differe...

Re: CPAP is a patch, not a cure...

Interesting video. It doesn't really apply much to those who need CPAP machines for sleep apnea, but it does focus on some other solutions for various different sleep problems, as well as some problems we don't normally think of a sleep related problems but for which there might be a sleep component...

Re: Now on bipap machine. AHI even worse!

Thanks for the advice, Pugsy. Am feeling a bit under the weather today, but will try to follow up on some of it when I feel more surely "among the living." With my problems with aerophagia, I'm not feeling very positive that I'll be able to make this thing work. I may well make a decision within the...

Re: Now on bipap machine. AHI even worse!

I ended up setting my APAP machine with a minimum of 12 and maximum of 14. I'd tried higher pressures on IPAP and reached the conclusion I probably needed a max of 18, but due to mask leakage and pain from swallowing air, 14 seemed to be the best I could handle. I'm not sure what my doctor tried to ...

Re: Now on bipap machine. AHI even worse!

Sleeping position was almost certainly supine. That's the only way I can sleep without causing big time mask leakage. Due to pain when lying on my side, I tend to sleep supine at least 80% of the time even when not using the mask. My last sleep study showed 100% supine. I changed the redline on mask...

Re: Now on bipap machine. AHI even worse!

Okay, clicking on the triangle at the lower right does not show the flow chart. I have not been putting the SD disk that I've been using for Sleepyhead into the machine at night. The CRT at the DME advised me not to use their supplied SD disk in Sleepyhead, due to problems with the disk running into...

Re: Now on bipap machine. AHI even worse!

Does my machine even give a "flow rate" chart? I don't see it. And I miss it!

Will have to do the other changes after a trip to the store and after dinner. So will be later this evening.

Now on bipap machine. AHI even worse!

I've been on my bipap for eight days, after going the past two months without any machine. I'm starting a new thread with my new machine, but if anyone feels a need to check back on previous posts from my ResMed APAP for any reason, here is the link. http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/t171740/Over-a-...

Re: Moving on to a bi-level machine

Thanks, PR. I knew nothing about bi-level machines but was certain someone here would know right off. I also found out from the CRT that they have three full-ace masks that I haven't tried yet, so that's good to know. I've tried seven different masks to date, all of which gave me troubles with leaka...

Moving on to a bi-level machine

After another sleep study, my doctor has ordered a bi-level machine for me. The CRT at the DME tells me I'll have my choice of two machines: the Res Med Air Curve 10 V auto or the Respironics DSX 600 Dream Station T-11. Question 1: Are both of these good machines and is there any reason I might pref...

Re: Needs Tricks with FFM (F 20 Airtouch Foam)

This isn't specific for the F 20 Airtouch Foam, but a more general suggestion you might want to try if you have different masks. I had a second sleep study Friday night, this time for a possible bi-level machine. I can't use a nasal mask because of my chin dropping and inability to tolerate a chin s...

Re: Chin Strap and TMJ issues

Instead of constantly jumping on someone else's thread, start one of your own describing the problem you are having. Sorry if you thought I was asking for advice. I wasn't. I was just replying to the OP's questions and comments in the first post. I didn't notice at the time that the original post w...

Re: Doctor told me "some people just don't tolerate CPAP"

I strongly recommend you get a firm foam cervical collar. This will help to hold your chin up when you sleep and prevent your jaw from dropping. I get ours from Walmart. I use a 4 inch collar and my wife uses a 3 1/2 inch collar. : https://www.walmart.com/search/?query=dm...%20dmi%20firm Not sure i...

Re: Chin Strap and TMJ issues

I had TMJ pretty bad before I had orthodontia in my 30s. The orthodontia realigned my jaw and I was without the problem for years. However, my teeth continued to move and I was starting to have TMJ very mildly before I started orthodontia again a couple of years ago at age 74. The braces came off in...

Re: Doctor told me "some people just don't tolerate CPAP"

I'm beginning to think that perhaps I'm one of those who just don't tolerate CPAP. My untreated AHI was 88, so I had good reason to give it a good try. But I've been on APAP now closer to five months than to four with little success. I just had a second sleep study Friday night, this time for a poss...
