If it tends to tear in the same place, (an apparent product fault) re-enforcing BEFORE the damage occurs makes sense....can you get to both sides? Regarding the poster suggesting to use aquarium silicone; silicone is silicone, if it's not, it's something else and won't repair silicone. Sorry to over...
