Re: Cleaning heated hose
If you have problems with controlling the humidity, and have condensation left inside your hose after you arise each use, there is some potential for pathogen growth, especially molds. The risk is not high, but there is some risk. In that case, it would be smart, I think, to occasionally at least l...

Re: Cleaning heated hose
I have never cleaned my hose. The only thing that goes through it is the filtered room air that you breath everyday, run over distilled water. It's a one way trip. Nothing from your breath can go back into the hose because of the air pressure. If there are germs in your hose, it's because there are...

Re: Cleaning heated hose
It does not stay clean. There is microscopic debris you can't see. You need to clean it on a regular basis.

Re: Cleaning heated hose
when you turn the machine off in the morning, stick your fingers by the hose end. the machine keeps running for a period of time with low pressure to push any leftover moisture out of the tube. so if it's working you shouldn't have anything growing. Sticking your fingers in the hose turns the machi...

Re: Cleaning heated hose
There is a persistent problem with mold growth in lungs (Cryptococcus Gattii) on Vancouver Island where I live, and its attributable to all the decaying wood in the region coupled with the high relative humidity. Hence my tempering my comment with the mentioning of humidity where I live. Do you eve...

Re: Cleaning heated hose
The bathroon is the scariest place to dry your cpap accessories. Every flush puts fecal coliform into the air. Swab any surface--do the lab thing--use microscope--be grossed out, big time. I am not sure it makes any difference since the fecal coliform is everywhere in the house. There are germs als...

Re: Cleaning heated hose
What is the best way to clean a heated hose? Can it be soaked in vinager water? Why does it need cleaning? I realize this thread is old, but I have to say I am quite shocked that you and a few other people here don't clean your hoses. The manufacturers Philips Respironcs and ResMed say that is part...

Re: COVID-19: Wearing a CPAP full face mask outside in the day?
So, I'd say that if you duct tape all the openings, it'll work great for about 2 minutes, after which point you'll pass out, and die. Good point! I never thought of that. put the mask frame on what? are you planning to duct tape the cushion to your face? Now THAT'S a good look. I meant attach the m...

COVID-19: Wearing a CPAP full face mask outside in the day?
There is talk that face masks will be soon required during the COVID-19 outbreak. Laredo, Texas already requires them and you get a $1,000 fine if you are caught outside without one (see https://www.businessinsider.com/laredo-texas-residents-dont-wear-masks-fined-2020-4 ). I don't have any masks, un...

Re: Why did my pulmonologist tell me to set my pressure to 13-15 if I have an Auto CPAP?
Thanks everyone for good answers. When I was on the road and using li-ion battery power, I tired not to go too high with the pressure, or my batteries would be more drained in the morning and take longer to charge, or even run out while I was sleeping. I found the colder the atmospheric temperature ...

Re: My doctor's strange behavior
So my results with another Middle Eastern sleep doc will probably be the same. Eh. Probably not. You may have had the only two bad M.E. docs in sleep. The rest of them may be positively golden for you. Ok, maybe I am too scared there is a pattern when there is none. Thank you for your perspective. ...

Re: My doctor's strange behavior
I was born in a border state in which a number of the yankees considered the mountain people to be mentally slow for preferring to speak at a leisurely pace and a number of the mountain people considered the yankees untrustworthy because they all seemed to be trying to fast-talk them into something...

Re: My doctor's strange behavior
I really suggest dismissing the idea of nationality, ethnicity, religion, gender, or sexual preference - at least in most cases - as a reason for choosing doctors. Anyhow, it sounds like it's time for doctor #3. You did not mention anything about being overweight, but I guess that it can be inferre...

Re: My doctor's strange behavior
What does his or anyone else's nationality have to do with anything? Not race. Culture. And sometimes cultural cues for politeness and respect get lost/missed/confused. Hey, it happens. Even between regions in the same country. Thank you. Nationality or ethnicity mean nothing to me. Some of my docs...

Re: My CPAP Experience while Hospitalized
I was in the hospital for 4 days in November for pneumonia. I brought my own machine and mask. It never was an option to use the hospital's equipment. I thought the wife came home and got my equipment, but she says I packed it up when we left for the emergency room. Yes..it was a pain in the butt w...
