Re: Pulse Oximeter & Possible Sleep Apnea?

Am I actually waking up during those Pulse Rate Events? Unfortunately no way to know for sure one way or the other. Could I still have obstructed sleep yet wake up early enough, before my SpO2 drops? Yes, it's possible. I have a friend with severe OSA and an AHI of over 60 but her oxygen levels nev...

Re: Pulse Oximeter & Possible Sleep Apnea?

Do you WANT to be sick? Do you WANT some kind of treatment? Maybe stop looking for trouble and get busy living. Yes, I'm completely fabricating all of my symptoms for attention. Wow. I apologize for reaching out to a forum that I figured was more knowledgable than Google. I've been through a lot an...

Re: Pulse Oximeter & Possible Sleep Apnea?

Ok, so for those who are curious and/or would like to chime in, I used a recordable pulse oximeter to try and confirm my suspicions (until I can get in for an apointment). Turns out I might not be having as many low oxygen readings as my other oximeter suggested. However I do have a question about t...

Re: Pulse Oximeter & Possible Sleep Apnea?

Mabe this is radical, but doctors minimizing health complaints is wrong. One small way to make a doctor pay attention to your concerns is to provide your medical concerns in writing. It changes the whole dynamics from, "she said, she said", to evidence - empirical proof. Also document your visit wh...

Re: Pulse Oximeter & Possible Sleep Apnea?

Everything you've said makes me think you need to be formally tested for sleep disordered breathing. Whether it is OSA or UARS is anybody's guess at this point, but hopefully soon you'll have some answers. I am curious about the other things you're experiencing that you mentioned in passing - somet...

Re: Pulse Oximeter & Possible Sleep Apnea?

UARS may turn into hypops but not full apnea they are tricky to diagnose i think i posted a link to an article on UARS that had the diagnosis methods noted wavetop flattening on the flow wave is a big sign of UARS which disturbs sleep a lot but not lower spo2 much low spo2 sounds more like full apn...

Re: Pulse Oximeter & Possible Sleep Apnea?

Rumbert - what a story! You know, I spoke with my sister about all of this recently... A few years ago at a routine exam her doctor was examining her throat and asked how well she sleeps. She asked why and the doc said something about how narrow her throat or airway was. She is overweight and does s...

Re: Pulse Oximeter & Possible Sleep Apnea?

So many of your symptoms were the same symptoms that I had before started my CPAP therapy! I can go down your checklist and check them off. Now they are resolved with my CPAP therapy. I sure hope that may be the case for you. I am real concerned that a doctor would call your symptoms, "normal bad s...

Re: Pulse Oximeter & Possible Sleep Apnea?

My primary care doctor has shrugged off my sleep complaints... I've gotten readings as low as 74, 81, 85, 88, etc. If I lay there and take long deep breaths it slowly rises (but very slowly). I think you did a very wise thing by testing yourself with an oximeter. As you know, if the the low reading...

Re: Pulse Oximeter & Possible Sleep Apnea?

Please (also) don't take med advice from a chiropractor... they're really not a lot better (or better educated) than massage therapists. And ditto the naturopath to a lesser extent. Stick with one GP (a new one if necessary) who coordinates your problems and interprets them properly according to es...

Re: Pulse Oximeter & Possible Sleep Apnea?

Hi UndiagnosedGirl , I'm going to be cautious in what I say - where I live there are laws about giving medical information and advice via public media - even when someone like you asks for it. I'm going against the journalistic habits of a lifetime. 1. Your sleep pattern doesn't sound normal - if b...

Re: Pulse Oximeter & Possible Sleep Apnea?

Pulse Ox, is just one little tool, not really great for diagnosing Sleep Apnea, You will have events that don't show up. It is better at seeing your overall O2 levels. Jim Thank you for your reply. I figured that, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being a total hypocondriac. I've always thought I...

Re: Pulse Oximeter & Possible Sleep Apnea?

Oh... be very careful about the ENT - they are focused on surgery and while there are operations supposedly to help apnea, most have been shown to be of temporary help at best, and some can even leave you worse off. Do NOT be talked into a UPPP, or other similar surgeries... at least come back here...

Re: Pulse Oximeter & Possible Sleep Apnea?

Get a new doctor - one who takes you seriously and doesn't just lump you in with your gender, age, etc. (as yours seems to be doing). If nothing else you should have a sleep test that takes into account any other features besides oxygen. If you have low BP for instance, it might account for the lig...

Pulse Oximeter & Possible Sleep Apnea?

Hello Everyone! Not sure if this is an appropriate place to pose my questions, but I would love to hear anyone's opinions on this. I do plan on following up with my general doctor, but in the meantime I would love to hear back from some of you. Without going into TOO much boring detail, I have had p...
