Upgrading Machine Cost?

Can someone please explain to me the difference between CPAP and APAP in terms of how insurance handles when they are the same code? How does this affect the billing process and how do DMEs handle? Thanks in advance.

Re: CPAP/APAP

but doesnt it depend on insurance It's fairly easy to justify moving up from cpap/apap to bilevel (the plain bilevel with no back up rates and not the ones with the back up rates). Pretty much just takes the DME and the doctor saying the patient isn't tolerating cpap/apap well. The plain bilevel, w...

Re: CPAP/APAP

I' I've been on this forum for about 5 years now, and there have been hundreds of stories of DMEs lying to people. Some of it is ignorance. Untrained people handing out machines an dnot really knowing much about them. But a lot of it is classic greed. They fit the stereotype of used car salesman mor...

Re: CPAP/APAP

So I was able to get the Bipap trial machine adjusted (spoke to someone else at the SAME) so I can tolerate it now. I actually prefer this over the CPAP. I am sleeping better than I did on the CPAP for sure. Starting to have dreams again and achieve deeper sleep but energy is not much better. I have...

Re: CPAP/APAP

The Bipap machine I have is just a trial so I only have it for a week or two. I didn't want to change anything myself. I called and spoke with someone at the DME and she said there needs to be a minimum of 4 between the inhale and exhale pressures and it was set at the lowest it could be. They said ...

Re: CPAP/APAP

I did not have good luck with the Bipap last night. It said it was on ramp but it sure did not feel that way. It was on inhale at 8 and exhale at 4. 8 is more than my highest pressure I needed on CPAP. I tried to give it a shot but I felt like I was filling up with air. My stomach and ears were both...

Re: CPAP/APAP

The trial machine they gave me is an Aircurve 10 VAuto. Ahhh....Sweet machine. Keep it if you can. Full data and pretty much the cream of the crop IMHO when it comes to bilevel machines without back up rates. I have owned the slightly older prior version of that same machine by ResMed which was cal...

Re: CPAP/APAP

Can the Resmed Airsense 10 auto also be set to a straight CPAP if needed?

Re: CPAP/APAP

Geez.....BiPaps cost more than apaps but they (the greedy DME) gets to charge the insurance more and get more money that way because they use a different HCPCS billing code. With the APAP....they get the same reimbursement rate for the CPAP because cpap and apap machines use the same HCPCS billing ...

Re: CPAP/APAP

I agreed to try the bipap and am picking up the machine tomorrow to test it out. I am not feeling optimistic as from what I've read bipap doesn't seem like the right fit for me. I have mild apnea, mostly hypopneas. My pressure is low and I don't have trouble exhaling against. So I'm not sure why bip...

Re: CPAP/APAP

Help! So I called my DME today and explained the situation. That I am still feeling the same on the CPAP as I did before the test machine to figure out my pressure setting. I explained that I never slept better than I did on the test machine (even on the first night I was out like a rock) and asked ...

Re: CPAP/APAP

I will reach out to my DME and doctor to see if there is anything that can be done to get another machine. I am worried I will be told it may take time to see results after they changed my pressure. The thing that stands out to me is how fantastic I felt and slept on just one week of APAP and how I ...

It says Airsense 10 CPAP.
