Just curious, but did no one suggest trying your low (Apap) pressure a bit higher, e.g. 8 or 10, before jumping straight to a bipap? Kind of unusual, regardless of how 'severe' (and it was) your study results are. The severity has nothing to do with how much pressure is needed to keep YOUR particul...

Just to clarify, (as far as I can tell) the OP is just starting out, with no equipment yet. The APAP was used in the LAB, but not used at home.
