Re: Sleep Study Tonight!!
Did they tell you that you only slept 30 mins or is that what it felt like to you? I thought I didn't sleep at all, but I slept long enough to be diagnosed. Well the tech told me also that I had barely slept and he only got a tiny bit of data and I will most likely be sent back in but honestly I'm ...

Re: Sleep Study Tonight!!
The whole experience can be a bit new/different/uncomfortable and tend to keep a person from being able to relax enough to fall asleep easily. My sleep doctor anticipated this and I was given a RX for a sleep aid just in case I had trouble going to sleep (and I did). You gotta get to sleep first to...

Scheduled this friday and need input
I started out having a home sleep study. The sleep doctor had told me I stopped breathing 20 times that night but he had said he only received partial results. I know the piece that went onto my index finger wasn't working properly. Whenever I moved a tiny bit, it would begin blinking on the screen,...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Tonsils
I had mine out at six. Parents were concerned about my frequent infections, and my small stature. Not sure if there was any result--Ear infections were less frequent, but I was/am still short. Ear infection at 10 eventually reduced my hearing acuity in the right ear. I still continued to have frequ...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Tonsils ? UPDATE
UPDATE* I had my first appointment yesterday! After asking me several questions, he took a look at my tonsils in shock. He was amazed how large they were. He said it's almost impossible for me not to have sleep apnea with those things along with my symptoms. He said he's going to expedite this whole...

Re: Is sleep apnea always "loud"?
Out of curiosity, does sleep apnea have to be loud? Can you have sleep apnea, have pauses in breathing, but not LOUD noises of catching my breath? Short answer: Sleep apnea does not always involve loud noises and/or loud snoring. Thankyou! As bad as it may sound, I'm HOPING my doctor tells me I hav...

Re: Is sleep apnea always "loud"?
Out of curiosity, does sleep apnea have to be loud? Can you have sleep apnea, have pauses in breathing, but not LOUD noises of catching my breath? Have a sleep study! I am within a week! I have all the symptoms. However, when I record myself sleeping, I've caught myself taking DEEP breaths at some ...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Tonsils
I'm 40 now but had my tonsils removed (UPP surgery) at the age of 25. I had moderate sleep apnea and was mild when tested again a few years later. However, I was tested again in my 30's and diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and received my CPAP. Having my surgery was EXTREMELY painful. It took me a...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Tonsils
You didn't say how old you, are but I suspect that you're over 21. For children and very young adults, sometimes a tonsillectomy (and/or adenoidectomy) is the treatment of choice. Otherwise, try CPAP first. I have very large tonsils too. My sleep doc said that he wanted to try CPAP first, and consi...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Tonsils
Assuming that this represents your normal condition (those don't look inflamed) I think a referral to an ENT specialist is in order. There us a subset of patients for whom chronically enlarged tonsils ("kissing tonsils") is the main contributor to obstruction. You probably still warrant a sleep stu...

Sleep Apnea and Tonsils
I'm still awaiting my sleep study in a few weeks, but I'm very symptomatic. (constant fatigue, headaches, dry mouth, nightmares) I read a few times that tonsils can have affect on it. I'm in very healthy shape. Could these bad boys be giving the apnea?
