Cleaning Dreamstation
I will readily admit that I haven’t used my CPAP (Phillips dreamstation) in entirely too long, but a recent flare up of the apnea has me reconsidering. I’ll be getting a new mask, headgear, humidifier tank, filters, hose - whole shebang, but need to some good ways to clean and sanitize the cpap unit ...

Re: Dreamstation Humidifier Cleaning?
It didn't seem to have a strange smell or anything, and I didn't notice any sort of residue, so I just stuck the humidifier tank in a sink of hot water and ivory soap for awhile. I'll clean the tubing and mask before I use it tonight (I'm not terribly worried about those; It was the idea of standing...

Dreamstation Humidifier Cleaning?
I was so diligent about cleaning my CPAP when I first started using it again (about two months ago when a different health condition flared) - but admittedly got lax with it. I haven't used it in roughly 2 weeks, which means I also haven't messed with the humidifier chamber/tank in as long (I feel g...

Dreamwear Full Face or Amara View?
I've been looking into getting a new FFM that does NOT leave that "lovely" red triangle across my face every night. Unfortunately, when I switched from plain medicaid to a managed care plan, I went from being able to get a new mask every six months to getting one just once a year. I just got a new F...

Illinois Medicaid replacement schedule?
As is apparently my M.O., I have managed to misplace the sheet that discusses when I can my supplies replaced - and it’s on the weekend, so I can’t just call the people who manage my Medicaid plan or the DMS they use. I know it seems like it changed last year, as I was able to get certain supplies l...

Re: Snoring Husband - Help!
Sounds like you've already tried everything honestly. My Dad was the same way - was diagnosed as having Severe Sleep Apnea, got the machine, used it for like....maybe a month before complaining that he felt super congested first thing in the morning, and refused to use it for several years. It doesn...

Humidifier Tank cleaning - Is vinegar necessary?
(please excuse the rambling - It's 5 am, and I've been dealing with some insomnia the last few days) I'm in the middle of packing and getting ready to move (the big moving day is Saturday and am honestly so ready to be done with this whole process; There are boxes everywhere and it's driving me nuts...

Re: Insurance and masks with multiple pillow sizes
It depends on the mask you get. My DME tried to rip me off at first - First mask was the dreamwear cushion and they only gave me the one nose piece. When I realized later that the set was supposed to come with EVERY size (5-6 sizes, if I remember), I called them to ensure it wouldn't happen again in...

Re: Help - first time was horrible
Full Disclosure: I have not read the other replies It was horrible to be honest and I wasn't expecting it to be. I felt like I was suffocating last night When I went in for my first sleep study, the Sleep Lab Tech let me try on the mask before laying down to go to sleep. I experienced the same sensa...

Re: 'Majority must be trained to adjust own pressures' -- Dr. K.
I should probably get better at adjusting my own pressures instead of relying on my auto-pap to do it for me. Luckily, my numbers aren't too bad and my Pulminologist/Sleep Doc is pretty good about letting me change things as needed without prior approval.

Re: Reasonably priced hoses, cushions, elbow joints?
I actually just found the paperwork from when I got my last mask - and if the dates line up right, I should be covered by Medicaid to get a new full face mask (including headgear, cushion, frame), new hose, new humidifier tank, new disposable and non-disposable filters) around January 31-February 1s...

Reasonably priced hoses, cushions, elbow joints?
It's been far too long since I've used my CPAP machine (probably several months - I know, I know, bad idea) - so before I turned it on again, I did a decent cleaning. I wasn't too concerned about the machine itself or the humidifier tank (as I always used distilled water), so a typical washing suffi...

Re: Newbie Looking For Info, and Motivation
I'm 26 too (will be 27 in just 15 days) so I get that it's not ideal to be saddled with a CPAP for (potentially) the rest of your life - but the long term complications of not treating sleep apnea are way worse. However, I would like to get some early tips on using CPAP so that I can be as prepared ...

Re: I had the sleep study from hell
The bed was also a "select comfort" that was too short and small for me to get comfortable, I think the bed at the lab I went to was just a regular bed - but even for me being 5'7", less than 200 lbs for the first one, I had an impossible time fitting on the thing. No taller than I am, I spent most...

Re: Concerns about sleep study tomorrow
What if I don't sleep at all? I'm told that's actually really common. If you find that you can't handle an in-lab study with all of the sensors, the at-home test may be an option (if your lab offers this - you'd have to check to see if your insurance would cover it, however). My pulminologist ended...
