Clonazepam (which is very cheap) has worked better for my wife than any of the high priced new meds. Plus it's additave sedative effects help a little with the sleep part. She has to take it about 2 hours before bed or else she just lays in bed twitching and kicking her nervous legs. She is not diag...

Same story here.....I had had CFS for several years....been on APAP for 1 1/2 years now for OSA....got some improvment after the APAP but the real improvement came from Provigil. I work very long shifts as a Paramedic up for 36 hour or more most of the time and Provigil has given me a life. I no lon...

Pre-Sleep Study Screening.
My local clinic now has a pre-screening available to patients that think they might have OSA. The local DME decribed the device as a nasal cannula sort of system that the patient wears for a night and it records irregularities in breathing then the clinic reads the data and determines if a Sleep Stu...

Sleepy, Let's see how I can put this. Oxygen Sat (as measured by a pulse ox) is a percentage of hemoglobin bound with oxygen molecules. So lets just say for fun that there is 100 hemoblogin in a healthy adult. An SaO2 of 100% would mean that all 100 are bound with oxygen molecules. But someone with ...

A perfect O2 sat would be 100% but most healthy adults run 96 to 99%....smokers of course 92 to 99%....an OSA'er should be on supplemental O2 at night on their CPAP if their sats drop below 90% during therapy... Keep in mind that SaO2 (oxygen saturation as measured by a pulse oximeter) is only a per...

Question for a friend CPAPer
A co-worker of mine (also a Paramedic) has been on straight CPAP for 3 years now and is concerned he made need different pressures due to the return of some sleepiness and other symptoms. How often should a straight CPAPer get this checked? Could he just use an APAP for a week or so to get some aver...

Looking for a used APAP
I am a Paramedic and spend many nights at work. I hate tearing down my ResMed AutoSet Spirit every day and toting it back and forth. So I am looking for a second APAP to leave at work. I would like the AutoSet Spirit with humidifier but would also consider other APAP's with humidifiers.....Any non-c...

I find it easier to exhale with a higher low setting like 8 or 9 as previously mentioned...now my HI is usually 1 or 2. As far as the leak reading...that's not too bad but can get alot better with a good comfortable mask that don't leak much...I have an activa and rarely leak more than .16 otherwise...

Lay around with the mask on while awake and gradually increase the amount of time you wear it at sleep time....Quit trying and just do it....you will succeed....you have to succeed...it's your life. If I can do I KNOW you can....I'm extremely claustorphobic...Soon you will not want to go to sleep wi...

It will take a little time to get used to the CPAP...I recomend APAP...it auto adjusts to what you need...As for the masks I gradually built up the time I wore them over a week or two...Now I fall asleep within minutes of the mask and wake in the same position I fell asleep in..not even sure if I st...
