Re: Can using a CPAP for years open the epiglottis?

Sorry for not geting back here for so long. Not setup to get notices of replies. I've since seen an ENT, had lymphoma in my neck & back of tongue in 2021-2022, did chemo & it's gone. Also diagnosed with Dysphagia ( swallowing into my lungs ). Been on CPAP ( lately APAP ) for a lot of years. Never st...

Re: Can using a CPAP for years open the epiglottis?

It's much more likely that lymphoma, the chemo, and untreated reflux caused this problem than cpap. OK, but looking at the anatomy drawings, I was concerned that air blowing into my nose, might be pushing the epiglottis open. I do get air coming out my mouth, at times. A few months ago, I switched ...

Re: Can using a CPAP for years open the epiglottis?

I have been taking pantoprazole for years. The only effect is if I skip one--then the dreaded GERD returns. Losing my gall bladder forced me to make minor adjustments. I almost never had reflux, unless I ate one meal horribly. But they did an endoscope & found ulcers, biopsied them & they were not ...

Re: Can using a CPAP for years open the epiglottis?

Also 6 stomach ulcers. They gave me an antacid drug, but I read that it's dangerous & had to quit it. Don't believe anything you read on the internet!. It was Pantoprazole. Where would THAT leave us? But actually I had the word of a medical professional ( Dr. ), who showed me an article. Have you b...

Re: Can using a CPAP for years open the epiglottis?

OK, that explains it, thanks. I don't know what to believe anymore, with medical people, since 2020. I had lymphoma last year, 6 chemo treatments, now cured. Also 6 stomach ulcers. They gave me an antacid drug, but I read that it's dangerous & had to quit it. I saw a speech therapist who wanted to t...

Re: Can using a CPAP for years open the epiglottis?

I was asking BC I developed a condition where, when I eat or drink ( not with the CPAP on ), it can go into my lungs.

In other words, swallowing food or drink can go into my lungs.

Re: Power Failure - is it dangerous for a CPAP user?

Exactly palerider. I don't know how I could have missed it. Just went in with the phone camera and there it is! Plain as day! :D The only thing freaking me out must have been the difference between the pressure with the machine on, and the resistance with it off. :) I hope you feel more confident n...

Re: Power Failure - is it dangerous for a CPAP user?

I'm not talking about a nose-only mask, but one that covers the nose and mouth, both. Are we clear on that? Yes, a tiny bit of air comes in, before I switch the machine on at night, but VERY little. I'm assuming that would be the case during a power outage while I sleep. And people die in their slee...

Power Failure - is it dangerous for a CPAP user?

I started using a CPAP about 5 years ago, with a mask that was just over my nose. It took me about a year to get used to it. After a couple of years, I was having problems with it, where my mouth would blow open as I slept - defeating the whole purpose of the CPAP, right? SO I went back to the suppl...

CPAP mask with built-in chin strap?

Hi everybody, I've been using an auto-CPAP for maybe 4-5 years now, and finally settled on an over-the-nose mask, which is the most comfortable and transparent mask for me - an F&P Eson 400451. The remaining problem is that eventually, my mouth blows open and dries out, waking me up in the process, ...

Re: Mouth opening while sleeping

The full face mask or possibly a chin strap to keep your mouth closed may solve your problem. Please fill in your equipment in the Control Panel so we know exactly what you are using...also. what are your pressures? I just did the equipment but it only shows the mask. My CPAP is the Remstar Auto Af...

Re: Mouth opening while sleeping

I am a three month user of a respironics CPAP and a Resmed Swift (nasal) mask and am really struggling with finding an effective way to keep the pressure (11CM) from blowing my mouth open while I'm sleeping. I love the feeling of having supplied air to my nose while resting, but having my mouth blo...
