Re: different kind of chin strap
is it ok to use the word bipap on this forum or should i go look for a bipaptalk.com site? har har. it's more appropriate to say "bilevel" since "bipap" is a registered trademark of respironics. like calling all copiers "xerox machines". of course, but bileveltalk.com does not sound as cool as bipa...

Re: different kind of chin strap
Perhaps you are an idiot, doc. A properly placed chinstrap will hold the wearer's chin in it's normal, at-rest, mouth closed position. As was previously mentioned, a FFM's lower strap exerts far more backwards force on the jaw than any normal chinstrap does. There are plenty of anecdotal accounts o...

I have not tried the therapy but know the mechanics of it well. I will likely try it now for sure. ...

Re: different kind of chin strap
Doc, we're talking here about a failure of the velopharyngeal sphincter to prevent pressuized air from escaping through the mouth, as illustrated in the diagram. http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i374/jayaitchsee/Mouth%20Breathing_zpsuxig1rat.png And further here: ... Next, think about how the ai...

Re: different kind of chin strap

Why are you here? at first i came on here to sell my dental appliance to all of you as a solution to your troubles with cpap for really incredibly high fees but now I am here to learn and get as muc...

Re: different kind of chin strap
Maybe if you stopped being such a smartass people might be more welcoming! That was completely unnecessary! Bipap is for people who need a very high pressure setting and many people here use it. it was a joke. we're onto something here. Julie, do you agree with me that most people use a Bipap so th...

Re: different kind of chin strap
folks, these chin straps are a terrible idea the whole reason people snore and/or have apnea is that when they fall asleep, their jaw muscles relax, and the lower jaw settles into the airway, constricting it. If you apply a chin strap in this manner, you are actually making things worse for your se...

Re: different kind of chin strap
Armen, instead of using chinstraps what about taping the lips to keep the mouth closed? i have never worn a CPAP machine. I have done HST's to find out my AHI which is under 3. I snore when I have the occasional social drink which drives my wife crazy. anyway, to be very clear, I am not here to bas...

Re: different kind of chin strap
. . . do you mind expressing what it was that you found to be a limiting factor for you? Some forum members (((a few))) have used appliances, to mixed results. I have great success with cpap (as you state cpap is "first in line for treating apnea"); and have not had occasion to try anything else. T...

Re: different kind of chin strap
"thanks again for pointing out that this is cpap sponsored forum for cpap help. as mentioned to you before, I had no idea." You're joking, right? What did you think a forum called Cpaptalk would be about - or were you being sarcastic? You look as slick as you sound and it's so out of place here whe...

Re: different kind of chin strap
The dentist is absolutely correct about the limitations of chin straps. TMJ, for example. Dental appliances have their own limitations, as many here will attest. Thanks for this yes, sure seems with all this progress made over the years we still have to constantly measure and check if something is ...

Re: CPAP and Mouthguard for Grinding
But seriously, I was trying to help. while pushing your grotesquely overpriced and ineffective 'alternatives' to cpap. shoo oh well. you got me there. good one. let it all out so we can move on cpap is always first approach. there are many who can't tolerate it. feel free to present that on a gener...
