Re: CPAP Shortage

In addition to the recall and supply chain issues, there's an additional issue.

Many CPAP machines were repurposed to treat COVID-19 patients. That means that those machines are not available to treat Sleep Apnea.

Thanks, folks - good to know that I don't just need to junk it. I'll start looking into the suggestions for where to donate it.

Re: Any use for old machine?

If you're comfortable with only one backup machine, you certainly ought to donate it! There is a critical shortage of CPAP machines at the moment. This is for the following reasons. 1. The general supply chain issues that affects many goods and services. 2. Many CPAP machines were repurposed to trea...

Re: Covid/CPAP question

Although COVID-19 won't live in your machine (even if it gets in), I agree you should wash it after the entire household has recovered. Let's just say it's "prudent." Unless there's a physical reason (such as a machine induced headache or extreme nasal discomfort) you can't use the machine, you shou...

Re: Airline ADA allowed CPAP use; how do I wear mask over nasal canula-mine blows air out of it; do I put others at risk

I really don't think they'll allow this until COVID is over completely (or they invent a new CPAP exhaust system) . Even if you can put a compliant mask over the CPAP mask, a CPAP would blow virus particles all over the plane.

Re: CPAP Friendly Hotels

I mostly travel by car and carry a long extension cord. for some reason, this made me picture your extension cord plugged in at home with the other end spooling behind your car. 🤣🤣🤣 I started topic several years ago (pre-pandemic). I always do pack at least one extension cord. However, if the hotel...

Re: When does a single apnea become dangerous?

I would call either your primary care physician or the doctor who prescribed CPAP. Since I believe you're in the UK (based on the way you spelled something), I'm not sure what the procedure is for the NHS. However, I believe that they do prioritize (my spelling) anything that they think will be life...

I really have a general distrust of Chinese products. However, considering Philips track record, how much worse can it be?

Re: Ive been diagnosed with Severe Sleep Apnea – Advice Please

Can you please explain your comment ( Something to marvel at: you have severe apnea and your AHI was 1.89! ) should I be alarmed at that number ? On the contrary. Severe sleep apnea means an AHI of greater than 30 and potentially much higher. 1.89 is a great number, especially just starting out. Ho...

Re: CPAP while in hospital for unrelated illness

Absolutely! Do not depend on the hospital to have a machine in stock! There is a shortage of machines now because of (1) the general issues in the supply chain, (2) many CPAP machines were repurposed to treat COVID-19 patients (thus not suitable for treating sleep Apnea), and (3) there was a major r...

Re: What type of mask should I buy in the CPAP machine?

I thought everybody know this, but that does not seem to be the case.

With a few oddball exceptions, any mask can be used with any machine.

Re: What to do with older cpaps?

Keep at least one as a spare. That was very beneficial for me, as I had a "safe" machine to use after my DreamStation1 was recalled. Now they sent a DreamStation2, but there are rumblings that it too, might be recalled. If that happens, I will go back to using my old one until I get a new one.

Re: New Dreamstation 2 chemical smell?

First of all, does it smell like "new car smell?" If so, it might be just that!

In any case, try running it for a few hours before you use it. That might just blow out the smell. Also, make sure that you put water in reservoir (or that humidification is off or zero).

Respironics FOAMGATE FDA Inspection Report. Keeps Getting Worse

This is from The Lanky Lefty 27. He went over stuff already discussed extensively. He did question the continued viability of Philips/Respironics. I'm kind of wondering about that too. If the replacement machines are also recalled, who would be able to trust anything the company made? Consumers will...

Re: CPAP Friendly Hotels

Since travel is picking up again, I though it would be useful to revive this topic and explain why I posted it. If you're staying in a major city - even in the third world country - the hotels will be just fine. However, when you go to more remote places, you're likely to find things like electric s...
