Re: OSA and Depression
My modest experience is that OSA is enough to exacerbate depression if not cause it. I have so much trouble tolerating the cpap machine that I went several months just not using it. Result was severe sleepiness during day. That is also something to be depressed about. I think anti-depressants are h...

Re: Machine runs out of water.
I have this problem with the Phillips Dream Station. For the record, my pressure is 13½ , and I have the humidity on high. Since I get up at least once during the night to use the toilet, I've learned to refill it at that time. If you can otherwise sleep through the night, or doing this would severe...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Muscle Twitching, Cramps, Fibromyalgia
I guess that the two hours you had the mask on were enough to make a setting determination. I hope you can adjust to CPAP. Whatever else might be wrong with you, you will feel better if this is treated. Some patients report that it takes months to feel better, others (such as myself) report improvem...

Sleep Apnea without snoring
I realize that most of the diagnosed patients have (or had) a snoring problem. However, I suspect that there's a minority that had silent apnea, including the obstructive variety. I would guess that the real percentage of silent apnea suffers (to total apnea sufferers) is higher, since snoring is so...

Re: The ways my health has improved
Having been using CPAP religiously for seventeen years, I can't say for sure where I'd be without it, but I don't think I'd be living at this time! The improvement in the way I felt was apparent after the second night (after the first night was ambiguous). Any thought of not taking it on vacation be...

Re: Fisher & Paykel Eson vs. Philips Wisp
I can tell you which one worked best for me , but that is not an indication of what will work best for you ! Choice of mask is a very personal one. It depends on your face and nose, and on other personal factors. The one tip I can give you is that I was having an allergic reaction to the part of the...

Re: Sharing a bed with a CPAP user and fixed pressure or auto ex
Since he has an especially bad case, it's highly probable that he has a high pressure setting. It's still not as loud as his previous snoring.
BTW, perhaps it's time for you to see a sleep doctor!

Re: data re: heart attacks and CPAP
Yes, the problem with this study was the non-compliance of the subjects. The researcher even alluded to that. Also - it's not 100% clear - I think that many of the study subjects had very advanced heart disease, and perhaps CPAP is less helpful to such patients than to Apnea patients in general. Las...

Re: Simple test to see if you can use a nose-only mask
If you open your mouth the air come out if there's no obstruction. The only possible flaw with this test is if the nose is open and the mouth is blocked. If that were the case, you'd have difficulty swallowing and speaking.

Simple test to see if you can use a nose-only mask
Note that this is a test to see if you can use an interface device that covers the mouth. It is not a test to determine if you should use such an interface. Put on the mask attached to the hose and turn on the machine (preferably with the ramp disabled). Open your mouth and see if the air flows out ...

Re: Injury caused by CPAP; has there ever been even one?
What I was trying to find out originally (and still want to know) is whether there was ever a CPAP accident. CPAP has been around for a over a quarter of a century now. If someone could tell me that no person was ever injured by CPAP use, I think that this might be reassuring. I know that somebody w...

Re: Injury caused by CPAP; has there ever been even one?
He wears a full face mask. The one thing that I thought of is that if he vomits into the mask and loses consciousness, could he drown? Does your Friend Binge Drink until he passes out? Some famous rock stars have died from inhaling their own vomit after they passed out. It's a real threat and using...

I was referring to the attention it gets from professionals, not the attention given on this (or other) forums.palerider wrote:Apparently, you've never actually read anything here on the forum.

Re: Injury caused by CPAP; has there ever been even one?
simple fact, if your friend doesn't use cpap, he will die. he'll die if he does use it, just probably not as soon. perhaps you should look to yourself, and your posts, for the quality of responses you're getting. He needs to be reassured, not "threatened." Yes, I know that he's under a very real de...
