CPAP already intolerable
I've been trying to use CPAP for one week now. The first 2 nights I managed 7 hours of use, it did not seem that bad overall. I did not notice a huge difference, but maybe less fatigue during the day, and some headaches. After the first 2 nights I'm struggling to continue with it. I feel like I can ...

Re: AHI measured by CPAP devices
I'm done some of my own reading now on this topic, and am satisfied with the conclusions I've been able to draw myself. For those who are interested, there are in fact several different definitions of AHI. See, for example, the following abstract/article: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19238801 ...

Re: AHI measured by CPAP devices
I guess the bottom line is that there are many different definitions of AHI, because there are different definitions of what constitutes an apnea or hypopnea.

AHI measured by CPAP devices
How does a device like the ResMed AirSense 10 actually detect apneas/hypopneas, in order to define the AHI? Don't these by definition require measurement of oxygen desaturations and/or arousals? How can the estimated AHI possibly be accurate without measuring these parameters?

nasal pillows and zits
I feel a little strange posting this, I apologize in advance. This is my second night using CPAP with nasal pillows... they were new from the package. After the first night I already started getting small, painful zits around my nostrils. I'm concerned that this may continue/get worse. I haven't had...

Re: starting CPAP tomorrow, nervous
Hello, thank you all for the encouragement. The first night on CPAP was not too bad. I do not feel dramatically different today, but I understand it will likely take time. I did have a pretty severe headache this afternoon. Is there ever any concern about breathing air all night that is passing thro...

starting CPAP tomorrow, nervous
I'll be picking up the CPAP device tomorrow, so this is technically my last night mask-free. For the past couple of weeks I've been hopefully waiting for this day to come in anticipation of feeling better and trying to move on in life. But all I've been feeling today is despair that maybe all my lif...

Re: They Tell Me I Need This Machine
Sorry if I was unclear... I've just recently been diagnosed with OSA myself... after years of unproductive treatment for another condition.

Re: They Tell Me I Need This Machine
I guess it's just a good thing that I never agreed to electroconvulsive therapy. I might be really irate.

Re: They Tell Me I Need This Machine
How reasonable might it be to pursue legal action? I am not the type of person who wants to get people in trouble or burn bridges, but I do believe this is extremely serious on many levels, and legal consequences could be important for establishing a point and/or precedent - which hopefully would he...

Re: They Tell Me I Need This Machine
I've been feeling frustration with misdiagnosis - not sure how to address this with the people who have been responsible for my "care" over many years. A major, major oversight that has had extreme consequences for my health and my life. I alternate between rationally trying to move forward with thi...

transitory vision changes after CPAP
When I went home after my CPAP titration (using a nasal mask), for a few hours I was concerned that maybe all the air forcefully blown into my nose and sinuses could have provoked an aneurysm, because I had a headache and my vision was abnormal - could not focus well enough to clearly see the print ...

Re: OSA and liver disease
Here is just one commentary in the NY Times last year, describing a couple of studies that indicate a link: http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/02/27/ask-well-are-fatty-liver-and-sleep-apnea-related/ I am not overweight (BMI ~21), may be one reason why apnea was not considered in my case, unfortunate...

OSA and liver disease
In looking back through some records I see that my liver enzymes have periodically been elevated over the years, with the most recent (2014) showing ALT 50% above the upper limit of normal and AST at the upper limit. Labs otherwise pretty normal. I note some literature suggesting that non-alcoholic ...
