Re: Lost weight but still have sleep apnea?
I wonder if alcohol doesn't also play several roles - both irritating the airway, plus acting as a CNS depressant.

Re: Fear and Loathing in Keto-ville
Update: So I was travelling Monday and didn't get the chance to check my blood ketones at the usual time. On Tuesday (two days after my whole-wheat pasta meal) I checked late afternoon and they were at 0.7 mmol/L. This is lower than they've been, but not back to my initial values (0.2 mmol/L). I fel...

Re: Fear and Loathing in Keto-ville
The only other thing I can say from personal experience is that without your health, nothing else really matters (not love, family, career, knowledge, or wealth of any kind). Your experience or not, that's way too simplistic... try telling Stephen Hawking that crap Well maybe I should have simplifi...

Re: Fear and Loathing in Keto-ville
So pretend to eat the g__d__n carbs, spit into your napkin, and wash the napkin in the bathroom sink. Kids with eating disorders learn to be very sneaky to get around their parents' watchful eyes. Consider it a game; and your opponent is cheating, so you are obligated to do the same. or, employ mis...

Unfortunately the alternative was also becoming unsustainable...chunkyfrog wrote:It may also smell, feel, and taste more "normal".
Any diet that is too detached from everyday fare becomes unsustainable.

Re: Fear and Loathing in Keto-ville
Here's my weight progress since early June... (logged using FitBit scale)
Does not look like I'm plateauing yet. The goal is to hit 190 lbs and stay there (this will give a BMI at the high end of 'normal').

Re: Fear and Loathing in Keto-ville
Leptic, I know you are trying to do the hard core keto thing, but maybe you could ease your wife in that direction by adopting a "whole foods" diet first. Which isn't really a diet, it's just eating a little smarter. See if you can get her to see the wisdom of giving up processed and refined foods ...

Re: Fear and Loathing in Keto-ville
I think our last counsellor was pretty traumatized... Been there done that ... counsellors and all. After two divorces, the only thing I found that counsellors (both marriage and legal) are good for is taking your money. If you can't work it out between yourselves, expecting somebody else to do it ...

Re: Fear and Loathing in Keto-ville
Looks like leptic changed the subject line yet again... very creative, keeps us on our toes Last week I gave my old old Atkin's books to the little free lending library down the street. No takers yet and I don't suppose there ever will be. Boy, that book was hot back in the day Once hot, now snot -...

Re: Following keto-ish diet - the good, the bad, & the stinky
Yeah I'm going to have to ask myself if this is worth my marriage. Probably best not to go into details but tonight was pretty rough. Balance is everything. Do some of the cooking. Alternate diets. Make it easier for her instead of harder. Remember food represents a lot of things besides fuel ; lov...

Re: Following keto-ish diet - the good, the bad, & the stinky
Potatoes are not my problem. Mine is having to bake. Blueberries are in season, it is one of the few fruits my sister can eat. I am baking at least 2 Gluten free pies a week as well as biscuits and cookies. At least 1/3 of my flour mix is almond flour so that reduces the carb load a bit. Just remin...

Re: Following keto-ish diet - the good, the bad, & the stinky
Unsustainable is relative .... unsustainable to your lifespan or hers? I'd opine that your biggest downside has been the complete lack of support from your wife. Today's discussion about what to have for dinner... Wife: "I want some real food today" Me: "like what?" Wife: "Meat and potatoes "

Keto breath
One of the few downsides has been that I seem to be going through a period of 'keto breath'. My wife (of course) commented on it wondering if there was some rotten fruit somewhere... of course when she figured out it was me, this was cited as another reason why 'my diet' is unsustainable. I am told ...
