Sleepyhead: "Your mask is leaking way too much."
Sleepyhead has sometimes told me that I have major mask leaks. Today is the first time it's reporting that my mask was leaking way too much and that I should talk to my CPAP provider. 1.) Can someone look at my graphs and tell me how I'm doing, leak-rate wise? I do think the large leak woke me up. A...

Re: When to change pressure settings?
I know RobySue did it...have you read her struggles with insomnia? I have! I am impressed that she stuck with it and was successful. I...cannot say the same for myself when I tried it, though hopefully working with another person will help me. Here are my stats for the last two nights. I think I'd ...

Re: When to change pressure settings?
You were right about the machine not wanting to go much higher, Pugsy. According to Sleepyhead, it was under 10.5 cm 95 percent of the time. I did wake up in the middle of the night but managed to go back to sleep pretty quickly last night. I meet with the psychologist Friday. I might have an initia...

Insomnia, both before and after CPAP
Hi all, I am about two months into CPAP and experiencing sleep maintenance insomnia (which I was also experiencing before I was diagnosed with OSA). I am 26, average weight, no health problems besides some anxiety and depression, and no medications except for Ibuprofen and Tylenol for headaches and ...

Re: When to change pressure settings?
Hmm, well, looking at the symptoms for UARS, I do seem to have most of the symptoms: daytime sleepiness, trouble maintaining sleep, arousals out of sleep. But I don't think I snore. One site I found says it's common in people with "a narrow face, a small or narrow jaw, or a thin neck." The NP did ta...

Re: When to change pressure settings?
Sure, Pugsy, I'm open to ideas. I've never even talked to the sleep doctor. It's just been the nurse practitioners and a respiratory therapist. They seem like nice people, but mostly of the "give it time" variety. The first NP at my consultation also told me that insomnia is a symptom, not a disease...

Re: When to change pressure settings?
Here's some info from my evaluation: "Patient had an average of 17 apneas/hypopneas per hour of sleep associated with mild oxygen desaturations to a low of 90%." "Patient was started on 5 cm of CPAP and the pressure was gradually increased up to a maximum of 8 cm. Collapsing across the different CPA...

Re: When to change pressure settings?
You take some OTC pain meds...so I assume some sort of pain/discomfort is going on. What sort of pain/discomfort? Do you need to take the meds daily or just rarely? Only every now and then. A few times a month, max. I mostly take them for menstrual cramps, though sometimes I take them for headaches...

Re: When to change pressure settings?
Hi Pugsy, I don't take any medications, except for Tylenol and Ibuprofen. I had a doctor's appointment about six months ago, and they told me my bloodwork looked normal, although I might call to inquire for more detail, because I know sometimes being low in Vitamin D can be a culprit of bad sleep. I...

Re: When to change pressure settings?
I see. I will try 8.5 tonight and see what happens. I have a rant I'd like to get off my chest...I've tried to make it coherent, but it may jump around a little. I apologize. I must say, what with not really sleeping after my wake-up early this morning and the news that my 3 am wakeups aren't actual...

Re: When to change pressure settings?
The machine doesn't really want to go higher Asking out of curiosity: What would be a sign that it does want to go higher? I was wondering if I should increase my max to 12 cm, based on the red line in the Pressure graph. Around 1 am to 1:30 am, it looks like my pressure was topping out at 10 cm. O...

Re: When to change pressure settings?
In my defense, I've only walked around with it around bedtime when I was lying down and needed to get up to get something. I just hate the hassle of having to remove it just for a few seconds, hang it somewhere (I really don't like the idea of my nasal pillows touching any surface, so I always find ...

Re: When to change pressure settings?
Last night, I woke up at 3:26 a.m. and I don't think I was able to really fall asleep. If we could somehow figure out what's causing this nightly wake-up around 3 am, that would be great--I really think that's what's preventing me from feeling well-rested. I remember, when my sleep issues started la...

Re: When to change pressure settings?
You are making a mistake by taking instructions from members of this board none of whom is a qualified medical respiration therapist. Using Auto CPAP is contra indicated for those who suffer from certain ailments. You need to undergo a sleep study in order to verify if you suffer from these ailment...
