Re: Oxygen concentrator instead of CPAP or BiPap?

REPORTING BACK . The O2 concentrator set on 2 liters works! Sleep study shows central events reduced to near zero. Sure is easier to wear a cannula rather than a mask. My doctor says that they are finding this approach (oxygen concentrator) is being used more and more on complicated central events ...

Re: Oxygen concentrator instead of CPAP or BiPap?

You're confusing breathing O2 or CO2 with the blood oxygen content. Central Sleep Apnea is neurological in nature. Quite often, getting too much oxygen (breathing it) can decrease the drive to breathe. It can be a fine balance. Den . The whole thing is a fine balance. I'm listening to my pulmonolog...

Re: Oxygen concentrator instead of CPAP or BiPap?

Central sleep apnea (CSA) or central sleep apnea syndrome (CSAS) is a sleep-related disorder in which the effort to breathe is diminished or absent, typically for 10 to 30 seconds either intermittently or in cycles, and is usually associated with a reduction in blood oxygen saturation. Central sleep...

Re: Oxygen concentrator instead of CPAP or BiPap?

palerider,
I know I'm taking a wild chance here but I'll go with the advice I'm getting from my doctors. Guess you can't be convinced but you certainly can be ignored. I'll bet this is not new territory for you.

Re: Oxygen concentrator instead of CPAP or BiPap?

. . . My main problem seems to be Central events. Is there a cause of the central events that is known? No. The theory now is that low O2 is the culprit and thus the O2 concentrator. It arrives Tuesday so the research continues then. well, this is the first I've ever heard of a theory that too litt...

Re: Oxygen concentrator instead of CPAP or BiPap?

Thanks JDS. I also paid for my concentrator.....not a big price and I can get started now. I may end up with the setup that you have. The ASV has been mentioned by my doctor when I went from APAP to BIPAP. I'll see how the O2 only works and we'll go from there.

Re: Oxygen concentrator instead of CPAP or BiPap?

Seems that central events can be reduced, even eliminated by the use of an oxygen concentrator. Thus the CA does not occur and breathing is simply not compromised. It's interesting. I want to say however that the more I learn about all this, the more I understand how individuals vary in their respon...

Re: difference between the DreamStaion "Pro" and the "Auto"?

Should have stated that this is a BiPap DreamStation Pro. I'll check the manual...ChicagoGranny turned me on to that on another issue.
