Re: Does the tongue suction method actually work? Mouth leaking..
Hey, thanks a lot for replying. So you also had mouth leaking problems prior to practicing this technique?

Does the tongue suction method actually work? Mouth leaking..
Hi everyone, I'm in the process of trying to switch over to the P10 from using the Amara View. When using the P10, I usually will not get any leaks out of my mouth during the first 4 hours of sleep. However, the second half of the night is when I start leaking (tongue drop) and it really messes with...

Tremendous success with MAD device, no longer need CPAP
Hi everyone, This will probably be my last post on CPAPTalk since I no longer need the CPAP machine anymore. Two months ago, I purchased a boil-and-bite MAD device that pulls your jaw forward as I didn't want to lug my CPAP machine around when traveling overseas. To my surprise, the first night I us...

Re: Full face masks, from a viewpoint of an engineering student
it pumps pressurized air down your airway if it pumped air down your airway, you'd eventually explode. assuming that you don't have gills. pressure differential between the room air pressure (which in this case is in your mouth) and the cpap air. no, between the pressure in your throat and the room...

Re: Full face masks, from a viewpoint of an engineering student
I concur with grayghost, that the reason that therapy works is that there is a pressure differential between your airways and the external pressure. So in theory whether you breathe through your mouth or nose, is of no concern as it is in the same pressure environment. Funny enough I'm also a biome...

Re: Full face masks, from a viewpoint of an engineering student
The way I look at is this: Your example is good observation on compensatory fluid dynamics (often directly comparable to air pressure dynamics). If one's mouth opens then a 'tributary' temporarily releases the pressure to a side loop - so what's the end result and where does that release of pressur...

Re: Full face masks, from a viewpoint of an engineering student
I think it is difference in pressure between the cpap pressure in your airway and the ambient pressure outside of the body .... but I think you are partially correct .. a nasal mask seem to work at a lower pressure than the full-face mask. I have no empirical data to back up these statements ... ju...

Full face masks, from a viewpoint of an engineering student
Hi everyone, This is not a question related to treatment per se, but just a curious question from an engineer who uses a full face cpap mask. May any expert chime in :p Here it goes: So most of us knows how a cpap machine works, it pumps pressurized air down your airway and effectively acts as a spl...

Re: Full face mask that wont push my jaw back?
Thanks for the reply Jay, When I use my FFM, my AHI increases from 1 to something like 2.5-3, with most of them being very obvious OA and hypopneas and considerably more FL. This is true even when I raise my pressure from 10cm to 15 (yes, that much). With the nasal pillow at 10cm, I almost never get...

Full face mask that wont push my jaw back?
Hi all, I was wondering if there are any full face masks you might know that wont push on the lower jaw much? The reason I ask because I have realized that my AHI is always 2-3 times higher than when I use my nasal mask (My conjecture is that FFM's push my jaw back, narrowing my airway). However, ev...

Taped mouth last night...
So I taped my mouth for the first time last night while using my wisp nasal mask. Results? I had my first good dream in a longgg time. Dreamt that I was with my girlfriend at a soccer game. Another was me driving a Ferrari down a twisty beautiful mountain road.

Hi,
I agree with Julie that this should be discussed further with your MD. However, to answer your question, the Respironics Dreamwear is the most minimalist mask I know.

Re: Average arousal index for normal sleepers without SDB
I suppose one thing that I realized is that even people without SDB have off days where they wake up feeling like crap too.
Many of our problems here on this board seem to be self induced either from obsession or anxiety over our AHI, leaks, etc.

Average arousal index for normal sleepers without SDB
I recently came across a very interesting research paper published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine regarding sleep arousals. It turns out that the average person without any type of SDB or sleep apnea experiences 10 to 22 spontaneous EEG arousals PER HOUR of sleep depending on age. To me, ...
