Sleep Doc/Center Recommendation
After 5 years of going it alone on CPAP therapy after a sleep test and lousy support in New Mexico, I am now in Austin, Texas. I thought I would take the opportunity to find a professional to review where I am at and maybe offer recommendations for improvement. Can anyone recommend someone in the Au...

Distinguishing OA from CA
Can anyone explain to me how the Respironics and Resmed machines tell the difference between an Obstructive Apnea and a Central Apnea?

Re: Resmed S9 and Resperonics System One
OK, so for the past 2 months I have been experimenting with settings on my Respironics machine and find that the tighter the range, the better the numbers. I homed in on a min of 8 and a max of 10, no ramp and Aflex of 2. This got my average AHI down to about 3 with almost all being hypopnea. Previo...

Re: Resmed S9 and Resperonics System One
Thanks again Pugsy and palerider.
I increased the minimum pressure on the Respironics to 8 (max 11) and turned off the ramp. Better numbers and probably a bit better sleep. At some point I may just disable the auto mode and set the pressure at my 90% pressure (9-10) and see what happens.

Re: Resmed S9 and Resperonics System One
Thanks Pugsy and Palerider. Makes a lot of sense. My current minimum setting is 6 and max is 11. If I close this gap up much more I start asking myself why I wouldn't turn off the auto feature and just use it in regular cpap mode with a setting of 10 or 11. Another way of saying this is it looks lik...

Resmed S9 and Resperonics System One
I have been using my auto cpap for about 6 years now. I have a Resmed S9 and a Resperonics System One. After much trial and error I have homed in on a minimum pressure setting of 6 and a maximum of 11 and no ramp. I use a Dreamwear Nasal Mask. My AHI results with the S9 are consistently better than ...

Re: EXTREME DRY MOUTH
Larry, I had persistent problems with night time dry mouth, before cpap and after cpap as well. Didn't make any difference if I used the humidifier or not, or whatever kind of mask I used. I have solved this problem by having my dentist make me a pair of flexible teeth guards that fit over both lowe...

Re: IntelliPaP 2
The Intellipap 2 is new to me, too. I have an S9 Autoset and an Intellipap. I use the latter when I'm at my wife's house about 10 days/month (long distance marriage - kids and elderly mom I'm taking care of). And I honestly can't tell the difference between the two machines. As for setting the mach...

IntelliPaP 2
I decided to get a second APAP so that I would have a backup to my S9, so I ordered the new IntelliPaP 2 from CPAP dot com. It arrived this past Wednesday and I have been having nothing but problems with it. It seems that the auto pap feature is messed up. It will increase the pressure pretty linear...

Re: Dry Mouth Question/Orajel
In case it wasn't clear, I wear the guards on my teeth all night. The Prevident 5000 Dry Mouth formulation toothpaste addresses potential decay. The biotene or orajel prevents the dry mouth. I haven't been woken up due to dry mouth for over a year now since I started this regime and before I was wok...

Re: My CPAP Treatment Journey
Heart Jumping,
By the way, did you notice the improvement in exhaling after changing to the DreamWear nasal mask? I found that I had the problem with the P10 and felt that it was due to the tendency for the pillows to "pinch" closed if not inserted properly.

Re: My CPAP Treatment Journey
Heart Jumping, My surgery was a Septoplasty with bilateral turbinate reduction. The septoplasty fixes the deviation (mine was 70% blocked). The turbinates are some membranes in your nose that basically condition (filter and humidify) the air that you breath. As we age the turbinates (like the rest o...

Re: Dry Mouth Question/Orajel
Those of you who have used orajel, has it helped if you feel your problem with a dry mouth is chronic due to limited saliva production? As an FYI, the dentist's office that I went to for a cleaning advised me to use a prescription flouride toothpaste at night to protect the teeth against my increas...

Re: My CPAP Treatment Journey
Heart Jumping, It has been very interesting following your experiences with CPAP and apnea. A lot resonates with me and I think that Pugsy has some very interesting things to say about Centrals as well as other topics. I have been on CPAP therapy for a few years and a couple of things have made a hu...
