Re: Mouth Leak?

I've been using CPAPs for 26 years and nasal pillows for 3½ years, and a few months ago I started having my sleep interrupted by mouth leaks. I will be almost asleep, and suddenly air puffs my cheeks and squirts out of my mouth, sometimes with a farting noise from my throat. Really annoying! I have ...

Re: Proper Disposal of Pooped CPAP

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm leaning toward keeping it as a better-than-nothing spare. There is a recycling place a few miles down the road, and they would take a computer, but I see no resemblance between that and a CPAP machine. Might CPAP.com attempt to repair an old Polaris Ex that I did not ...

Proper Disposal of Pooped CPAP

My old Polaris was feeling oddly gentle with its air flow, so I measured with a titration device, and it is indeed below the prescribed pressure. So I have ordered an XT Fit machine from cpap.com. I'm curious as to what is the politically correct way to dispose of a dying CPAP machine. It seems hear...

Re: Ongoing Ear Problems Since Starting CPAP

I got an inner-ear infection, with vertigo, which I suspect was caused by failing to wash my CPAP mask. Since then I clean the mask regularly, and that hasn't happened again.

Re: POLL: Why are you here?

Why Am I Here? After 25 years of CPAPing, I need to buy my fourth CPAP machine. Past CPAP purchases have simply been what my CPAP dealer wanted to sell to me. I'd like to make a more informed purchase this time. But where are the reviews? Are they buried somewhere in these 1822 pages of cpaptalk?

Re: Importance of Sleep Study Nurse (Theory)

Apparently times have changed. My first sleep study, in 1990, was at the Mayo Clinic. My lab person was dressed in the typical all-white uniform of a nurse; I assumed that she was a nurse, and she very likely was. My second sleep study, in 2008, was at a West Virginia hospital, and the lab attendant...

Re: Importance of Sleep Study Nurse (Theory)

Ironic that I've recently been reading in my grandmother's five-year diary, in the year 1915. She had been a schoolteacher -- a woman's job, men were the principals and other administrators in the schools. Then she married and was now a stay-at-home mom while her husband was a lawyer -- a man's job ...

Re: Importance of Sleep Study Nurse (Theory)

Here's another way to look at it, smart a**es: Google 'sleep lab atmosphere' and see all the references to a warm, comfortable, calming decor. Shouldn't the nurse also be warm, comfortable and calming? And this is not about sex. GET SEX OUT OF YOUR DIRTY MINDS -- for just a minute, anyway. Those wit...

Re: Importance of Sleep Study Nurse (Theory)

I also think you should have chosen the user name HornyGramps. I wrote "attractive", not "hot". I felt that she was nurturing, like a mother. She was putting me to bed, like my mother or grandmother often did. Damn, I shouldn't have used "attractive". It's like honey drawing flies. Thanks to the fe...

Re: Importance of Sleep Study Nurse (Theory)

Really, Sheriff, and your son's fiancee would make an especially good sleep study nurse. But seriously, as it says in the title, this is a THEORY. In support of this theory, I would argue that women are more nurturing, or at least have a more nurturing image, than men. Is it OK, in this politically ...

Importance of Sleep Study Nurse (Theory)

Ever since I first donned a CPAP mask, I have had positive feelings toward it. Why? Well, on that fateful night, May 16-17 1990, a nurturing female nurse waited on me. Since then, I have associated CPAP with being nurtured and cared for. Much later, in my second sleep study, I had a male nurse attac...

Re: Machines Don't Last Forever

Thanks for the replies. Logic says we may need to buy at least one out of pocket, just to avoid the misery of non-treatment. Apparently CPAP machines are like mattresses -- Made to last only a few years. Yep, chunkyfrog, looks like I've got to pay my own money (gasp) for a new one if I want the luxu...

Machines Don't Last Forever

Hello, I'm new to this forum. I've been using CPAP for 25 years. I love my CPAP machines, they enable me to sleep deeply and awake well rested. I'm on my 3rd CPAP machine. My Healthdyne died with the symptom of slowly RISING pressure until it was off the dial. My second machine, an Invacare Polaris ...
