Re: Sleep Apnea Implant - Clinical Study / CPAP Alternative
The hospital I spoke to in Louisville requires BMI be OVER 30 not under. I would assume this is a requirement because they want to start out with people that need the most help to assure effectiveness of the program BG, I can only conclude that the site gave you wrong information, sorry. We will co...

Re: Sleep Apnea Implant - Clinical Study / CPAP Alternative
I received my call from the hospital this morning for my phone interview to see if I qualify for the implant. First of all, your AHI sleep test without equipment, which you have to take must be 35 or over. And you also have to have BMI over 30 . Then you have to submit to a physical to determine if ...

The very first patient was implanted in Belgium in November 2009, the European approval was made official in 2012/2013. First patient will complete 6 years implanted, doing very well.chunkyfrog wrote:I can understand the desire to eliminate a "wild" variable.
How long has it been used in Europe?

Re: Sleep Apnea Implant - Clinical Study / CPAP Alternative
More likely, they are worried about interaction of signals between the devices. Jim Interference should not be a problem for these OSA implants. The issue for having a pacemaker in a study is that study sponsors want to avoid adding a potential problem/variable not related to the particular study s...

Re: Garden of Implants?
If it is of any help, the surgery is simple, takes only 45 minutes, and it does not affect your anatomy. Perhaps most OSA patients think of surgery like UVVV, mandibular advancement, etc, so it's an understandable concert, but this is different. Some patients (CPAP non-compliants) have no option and...

Re: Garden of Implants?
Apparently more than one implant relating to sleep apnea is available (or being tested) in the United States, and/or the rest of the world. Questions: Is the whole "implant" approach new or has it been around for a while? Are each of the implant approaches essentially variations on the same theme? ...

Re: Sleep Apnea Implant - Clinical Study / CPAP Alternative
Another condition that might prevent one from taking part in the study is having a pacemaker. (I do not know if this would prevent having the device installed.) I answered all the questions in their pre-questionnaire and that was the only one that might have caused them to say I was ineligible for ...

Re: Sleep Apnea Implant - Clinical Study / CPAP Alternative
49er, thanks for your comment - I will clarify a couple things. Dr. Park was involved in a previous study (another sponsor) for a system that had limited reach in terms of patient inclusion criteria - and it was mainly because all the system did was "push" the tip of the tongue forward. In high BMIs...

Re: Sleep Apnea Implant - Clinical Study / CPAP Alternative
Not sure this will help you, but while the BMI limit for the Inspire system is 32, THN Sleep Therapy's limit is higher at 35.
And because it's a clinical study, the system, surgery, medical visits and clinical support is free for participants.

Sleep Apnea Implant - Clinical Study / CPAP Alternative
Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and noticed several conversation threads about CPAP alternatives. I thought you might be interested in finding out more about another sleep apnea implant (not Inspire) that is currently being evaluated by the FDA in a clinical study in the US. I am an executive at the ...
