Re: What are you supposed to feel like when you wake up?
Thanks, that helps. I'm really curious to see if it's possible for me to actually enjoy mornings. That concept seems so foreign to me. I guess I was just thinking that even if I get the apnea controlled well by the machine, the best case would be that I feel much better during the day but I still mi...

Re: What are you supposed to feel like when you wake up?
I think maybe this came off more seriously than I intended. I haven't started therapy yet. Waiting for my DME appointment soon. I don't really need reassurance. I was just curious as to what I have to look forward to eventually. I guess there is no answer really other than just "wait and see". I can...

What are you supposed to feel like when you wake up?
I can honestly say that I never recall having a single morning in my whole life where I woke up and "hopped" out of bed ready to go, full of energy and refreshed. I always wrote this off to just not being a "morning person". Now that I have know I have sleep apnea, I'm curious as to what it's "suppo...

Re: New to this. Trying to figure it out.
I'm supposed to be contacted by a DME by the end of next week. They said they did not recommend I go with any of the ones BCBS recommended though because "we've had a lot of problems with them". They claim that the one they will send me too is in network for BCBS and it's a lot easier to deal with....

Re: New to this. Trying to figure it out.
I think I'm good now. Things went really well with the Sleep Doctor. He was easy to deal with and wrote the prescription specifically for the "ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet with heated humidity and heated hose with advanced data capabilities". The only hangup was that I didn't have a copy of my origina...

Re: New to this. Trying to figure it out.
Sorry for bumping my own thread, but I'm hoping someone might have some advice before I meet with the sleep doctor later this afternoon. Any suggestions on how to approach my Dr. about getting a more specific prescription written?

Re: New to this. Trying to figure it out.
Ok. I uploaded the report details to photobucket. Hopefully these show up ok. I tried to get them in order for the most part. I have an appointment with the Dr. to review them and try ton convince him to write a prescription for a specific machine tomorrow evening. Any ammo you can give me to convin...

Re: OT: Daily Funny bone
Great thread. I'm more of a pun guy myself. Although I do love a cheesy joke, especially if it's gouda. It's nice to have someone other than my kleptomaniac friend to tell them to. He takes everything literally. I got beat up trying to stop a guy in a brown robe selling flowers today. That's what I ...

Re: Why are people in denial?
Interesting topic. I am newly diagnosed (still working on fighting to get my machine), but I guess I was pretty sure I had it for the last 10 years or so at least. Reasons I never forced the issue to get a sleep study until last month (NOTE: I'm not implying they were good reasons): 1. Didn't think ...

Re: New to this. Trying to figure it out.
I called the sleep center this morning and they said they had "already ordered" the only machine I was prescribed which was a CPAP. I said I wanted an APAP and only certain models and they explained that an APAP was different than a CPAP (I knew that). They told me I would have to talk to my PCP if ...

Re: New to this. Trying to figure it out.
So now I'm a little concerned. Here's the response I got from my PCP when I asked for the prescription to be written for the specific machine. "Thanks for your input , I have ordered the CPAP machine that the Sleep Center has reccomended and I just go by what they advise as I am not the Sleep Apnea ...

Re: New to this. Trying to figure it out.
5) Call your insurance company and see which DME's in your area are in network for them. At this point, an out-of-network DME will be a real hassle. While on the phone, ask about whether and how they reimburse for purchase rather than rent-to-own. Some insurance companies will do rental for the fir...

Re: New to this. Trying to figure it out.
Welcome! I love your brevity. Next step. Call insurance company. What do they pay and how do they do it? Rental? Pay outright? In network, what are your options for DME? Can you buy online and get out-of-network reimbursement? Look up and write down the names and model numbers of the 5 or 6 machine...

Re: New to this. Trying to figure it out.
It all varies depending on how your medical practice is set up. In my case, GP (general practitioner) provides referral to sleep doctor. Sleep doctor doctor meets with me and due to last sleep test being 7+ years ago orders new sleep study. Based on sleep study results, sleep doctor write prescript...

Re: New to this. Trying to figure it out.
I think I'm posting too fast or something. My last few didn't seem to make it. Being a software engineer myself I will not be judgmental and assume it was my own human error. Hopefully they won't all come through at once or this post will look really silly. Sadly, I'm sure there were some great joke...
