Re: New Here – Need Help Getting Started with CPAP
Hi everyone, I'm new to CPAPtalk and just beginning my journey with CPAP therapy. I was recently prescribed a machine, but I’m still trying to understand how everything works – from choosing the right mask to adjusting settings and handling side effects like dry mouth and discomfort. I’d really app...

Re: Gasping for air and waking up with anxiety when falling asleep
Hello, I've bee using a cpap machine for 12 years. But recently I have nights where it is really difficult to fall asleep. As I'm about to sleep, I wake like gasping for air, like I'm falling and feeling really anxious. I thought maybe it was anxiety, but once asleep, no more problem, I sleep fine....

Re: Stomach Sleep - best sleep ever, but shoulders destroyed
(NOT my mouth, but my jaw drops)...is there a sensible solution to train myself to keep the mouth shut? Is there some magic chin strap that will gently force me to keep the jaw shut? you may want to try a firm foam cervical collar. they are found at your drug or grocery store down with the rest of ...

Re: How to detect mouth breathing/leak
Nasal masks work perfectly fine with BiLevel. Put on some mouth tape, fix the leak. If you have to see any of these Drs again just tell them you're using a FF-mask. here in support for what ds is saying. I've been on a nasal pillow mask for ten years and it made the journey over to bilevel just fin...

Re: How to detect mouth breathing/leak
Do leaks from the mouth appear on Oscar? no. leaks are leaks as far as oscar knows. Yes! Leaks are leaks as far as Oscar is concerned. The correct question is "Does Oscar discriminate between mouth leaks and other leaks?" to which the answer is No. Oscar will show all leaks recorded by the machine,...

Re: Positional devices
So I'm curious about things intended to help people avoid sleeping on our backs. i use a fanny pack. i put an empty plastic water bottle in it. the kind of water bottle you get at seven eleven or such like. this is very light but will still give a slight bump to remind you. and a slight crinkling s...

Re: How to detect mouth breathing/leak
Is there anything less harsh than tape, what about medical mask but only on the mouth? Is the point keeping the mouth shut or is the point to prevent leaking? Just a random idea https://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/p1089718/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=112758&p=1086133&hilit=+waveforms#p1086296 I take it it's...

yes you can get leaks that way. I took have some misaligned front teeth. I've found that using denture cream on my lips keeps them from parting and for me, no mouth leaks.

Re: Waking up every hour - nothing obvious on OSCAR?
Before CPAP I had occasional maintenance insomnia issues, but it was more like, waking up after 5 hours and then being up for the day unable to fall back asleep. Not every hour like with CPAP. I think I might have woken up around 22:00, coinciding with the big leak at that time? But not the other w...

I wore my mask for an hour today, and I'll wear it for another hour before bed!
Will update with my progress!
