Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
The five-year replacement is part of the specs. Just remember if the machine stops functioning while you are asleep you are breathing in the air you just exhaled so you won't be getting air with very much oxygen in it. I for one would rather replace a machine while it is still fully functional rath...

Picking my poison . . .
With both my Dreamstation 1 BIPAP and its predecessor, a System One 760 BIPAP, under a discontinue recommendation, I've had to resort back to an old M series CPAP auto I used prior to the System One machine. Given the age of the M series and the fact I hear a bit of a high pitched whine I can't reme...

Re: Dream Station 2 and Oscar Update
Any update from the Oscar team on their progress with Dream Station 2 integration? Thanks From what I've read on another board, it isn't looking good. Apparently Phillips Respironics has chosen to encrypt the data so it can only be read by specific, targeted devices. So, now it isn't only a matter ...

Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
If it's still working within specs and doing the job it's supposed to do, and I'm still happy with it, why should I have to buy a new one just because it's reached a particular age? Again, what's the justification for replacing it? Just because it's medical equipment? Then, why not two years, or on...

Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
I don't know why they are assigning what seems to me an arbitrary 5 year life. What would you propose? When the machine no longer functions as needed. Just like how we decide when to replace other things. Sure, let's start treating our essential medical equipment like toasters. If it's still workin...

Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
I stopped using my Dreamstation 1 and ordered a new Dreamstation 2 from CPAP.com a couple of days ago. It works like any other CPAP, but it seems to be cheaply made, and I don't like the new humidification chamber, which is fiddly to deal with. Wow. I guess I'd better not get the Dreamstation 2 the...

Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
Hairy, my point is that perhaps Philips is laying the groundwork to limit their exposure by saying they have no obligation to repair or replace machines past their stated service life anyway. You may well be right. I saw a review online of the new resmed 11 machine. Apparently it has a nag screen t...

Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
Reading between the lines a bit in the Philips announcement they remind the user that the general service life of PAP devices is considered to be 5 years. Does anyone else think that it might be a waste of time to register and seek mitigation with devices older than this? For various reasons I tend...

Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
I did call the 1-877 line and was told that units over 5 years old will be replaced while those under 5 years will be repaired. I wonder with what they will replace them. It's not like they have a bunch of new System Ones sitting around. I wonder if that means if you're machine is 5 years old or ol...

Re: Using the CPAP machine is the worst, most restless sleep I've ever had. What is a permanent alternative to this arch
Sometimes, it's the tough love approach that works. When my mother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes back around 1950, while she was still in the hospital feeling sorry for herself, a doctor walked into her room, tossed a book on her bed that at the time was one of main guides to treatment, and sa...

Re: Using the CPAP machine is the worst, most restless sleep I've ever had. What is a permanent alternative to this arch
what is the permanent alternative? death. Succinctly stated, and very true--at least for many of us. i might have stated that a little more "nicely", but i grow weary of folks coming in and spitting out how they hate this and need to have another way. other than surgery as chicago granny said, ther...

Re: Using the CPAP machine is the worst, most restless sleep I've ever had. What is a permanent alternative to this arch
what is the permanent alternative? death. Succinctly stated, and very true--at least for many of us. For those with light cases of sleep apnea it may be more of a comfort/quality of life thing. But, my doctor told me he felt like he saved my life. He told me I would die without a CPAP. Without trea...
