My deceased father's CPAP - safe?

This may seem extremely morbid - but I'm trying to figure out if it's safe for my mother to use my Dad's old CPAP. My Dad passed away and had bronchitis, maybe pneumonia, shortly before he died when he was last using the CPAP (Airsense 10). My mother doesn't have insurance but needs one, and this on...

Re: colonoscopy

I'm having a colonoscopy and endocsopy with general on Friday. I'm way more worried about the prep than the procedure. On the other hand, someone here in another thread posted an article on the risks of anesthesia in people with sleep apnea, and it was clear that there were definitely greater risks ...

Re: One week on CPAP

Thanks for the replies, it really helps to get so much information and encouragement when you're just starting out. I don't know how much I'm waking up. I guess a lot from looking at sleepyhead. I looked at one day and I had 9 sessions, which means I woke up and took the mask off 8 times. I don't kn...

One week on CPAP

So it's been a week since I've been using CPAP. THe good news is i don't really mind the mask (I read here about watching a movie with it on while you're awake and I did that the first day and I think it helped). The other good news is that the machine is telling me my AHI is down to about 4 (untrea...

Re: Newly Diagnosed rant. BCBS MA denying titration study

Cardsfan - I don't know - I hope so. The initial appointment was made last year, but I only got to see him this March. So I really don't remember. BCBS paid for it though, so I think there must have been a referral. Bwexler - I know, you're right - My attitude's horrible right now - and I need to be...

Re: Newly Diagnosed rant. BCBS MA denying titration study

No, you don't need PCP referrals for studies. IYou only need them for specialist visits. For studies you need authorizations, I'm assuming that's what they really mean, but who knows. BCBS apparently told the doctors office an auth wasn't necessary. We'll see how far that gets me. I will call BCBS t...

Re: Newly Diagnosed rant. BCBS MA denying titration study

More fun - I just got a notice from BCBS saying that I am responsible for the $3300 for the first sleep study because there was no referral from my primary care doctor. My head is about to explode. I actually did check before the sleep study and I actually have an email chain from th sleep lab where...

Re: Newly Diagnosed rant. BCBS MA denying titration study

But you did get a copy of the script right? If not why not? You are legally entitled to it. If you have the script, you know exactly what he wrote on it/them. No, I was thinking about it, but the medical assistant who was checking me out and had the script was impatient and I chickened out. Stupid.

Re: Newly Diagnosed rant. BCBS MA denying titration study

I saw the sleep doctor today. First thing he said was "you need a titration study." So he was clueless about the denial. Or my many emails. I explained to him the situation and he said that he prefers lab titrations, but he'd just prescribe an APAP instead. I said, "for a trial?" And he said no, but...

Re: Newly Diagnosed rant. BCBS MA denying titration study

Thank you all for the really helpful replies. You've all not only set my mind at ease - but made me happy that I'm having an in home titration. Thanks also bwexler, for suggesting Pap machines. It's intimidating how much there is to learn - but that part feels like the most intimidating part, figuri...

Newly Diagnosed rant. BCBS MA denying titration study

This is my introduction - and my plea for any advice/ info. The short/TLDR version is it looks like BCBS in MA anyway is denying CPAP titration studies. - I think in favor of an APAP trial. at home But I'm not sure and I'm extremely wary given how Things have gone for me so far. I just don't trust t...
