Re: Getting the wife on board (help!)
I'm the wife, light-sleeper and CPAP user in my household. My husband doesn't like the "breathing noise" the machine makes, so we put a white-noise machine on his nightstand that covers up the noise of the air moving. He prefers the sound of light rain to the woosh. I have a different sleep schedule...

Re: Dealing with bad nights... energy supplements?
What's a bad night? I have terrible sleep problems - OSA being only one of them. Many of them result from life-style choices I make, including caffeine and when I think my bed-time is. I'm slowly adjusting and experimenting with those and finding out how to get better rest in the bed. I have to be r...

Re: CPAP doesn't seem to be making any difference
Yeah, would it be nice if we all felt better after 2 days on cpap? I've been doing this long enough that the sleep center has said "see you next year" and left me on my own. But I still struggle. I still am symptomatic and I have some really bad numbers on occasion. But even the worst night on the c...

Re: Coughing at night with mask on
I was getting an itch in the back of my throat from cpap that made me want to cough. I did some investigating and somehow my humidity was turned off. I put it back to 2 and the need to cough went away. May try fiddling with your humidity settings to make sure you're getting enough moisture in that a...

I've been gone awhile, and it makes me really sad that Enchanter doesn't have a resolution yet. As a person who had similar problems getting started, I understand the frustration. The problem seems to be with Enchanter doing the same thing (phone calls) and getting no results. Enchanter - It's been ...

Re: OT - Diabetes, Weight Loss, Etc.
Hurray!! *waves pom poms* I've done something similar, so I know how hard the changes can be. Due to issues with inflammation, I've also cut out all processed food, so I have to cook a lot more. That is my biggest adjustment. It's so easy to just pull a box out of the freezer when I'm busy. Now I ha...

Re: How to avoid swallowing air?
That is interesting to me as I had less aerophagia when I switched from the P10 nasal pillows to the N10 nasal mask.Jay Aitchsee wrote:I noticed a reduction in Aerophagia symptoms when I switched to nasal pillows from a full face mask.

Re: New To A Machine
I had a lot of trouble at first feeling like I was "suffocating". The more I looked at it, it wasn't that I wasn't getting enough air, it was that I didn't feel like I could exhale against the pressure. For me, this was all mental and I just had to keep telling myself it was okay and I just got used...

Re: Struggling with CPAP treatment
I found the tape really helped to keep the mask on my face in the beginning. I was in the hospital for a procedure and they sent me home with this roll of medical tape that breaks off into 1.5" strips. I would just pull off two and put them where the straps cross my cheeks. When I would try to take ...

Re: Sleeping Supplements
I've been playing with this. Most rx sleep aids make me feel awful all day the next day. I'm too doped up and can't stay awake. I've tried some supplements, but what works best for me is a timed or slow-release melatonin. I need that second stage to keep me asleep.

Re: Very Sore, Very Red Nose Bridge
LOL! This reminds me of when I was using tape to keep the mask on in the early days. I was driving along and saw myself in the rear-view mirror. I still had a piece of tape stuck to my cheek.chunkyfrog wrote:I usually removed the band aid before leaving for work--but not always!

Re: Puzzling decline in therapy quality
Oh there's my nemesis - Sleep Hygiene! There was a great article (posted here somewhere I think, but I can't find it now) about how people with OSA will tend to be night-owls as a subconscious resistance to sleeping. I am a total sleep avoider. I hate sleeping. Sleeping can be painful and annoying a...

Re: Very Confused Newbie
I'm a newbie too and the lack of feedback from the DME and Sleep Doc are my biggest peeves. You go and do the study and get told you're gonna die if you don't get this machine. But then they take weeks to get back to you. HUH!!?? It's so exasperating in a time when you need information and support. ...

Re: Trouble staying asleep with CPAP
After three months, if the mask is not comfortable, chances are it's either not the right mask for you or you have it cinched down too tight. Thanks for that. Yeah, the mask is fitting correctly. I'm a woman of a certain age and sometimes I sweat. A LOT. Sometimes I wake up with a little puddle for...

Re: Trouble staying asleep with CPAP
I'm about 3 months in and I still wake quite frequently. My big mistake has been to pull off the mask for comfort and then I fall right back to sleep without it. I'm trying to get out of bed and then mask up again. I get itchy nose sometimes. I'll pull the mask off, give everything a vigorous rub an...
