Re: support research on sleep apnea

I think it's important to know who's trying to get a research grant. Lots of others who have come here on the forum for research and surveys have offered their background information. Plus, I think it's disingenuous and fraudulent to NOT identify yourself when you're asking people (on the forum) to...

Re: support research on sleep apnea

Just to let everyone know how the voting turned out, the final number of "net votes" for my research idea was 6. That is an above average score among the 1,257 ideas that were submitted, so probably NHLBI will at least consider it for inclusion in their research priorities. Thank you very much to ev...

Re: support research on sleep apnea

Thanks for all the help and support everyone! The research idea now has positive 5 net votes, which probably means that it will at least be considered for inclusion in the NHLBI's research priorities.

Re: support research on sleep apnea

One more vote in favor of this research would raise it out of the negative numbers of "net votes". If you haven't voted yet, please consider it. http://nhlbistrategicvisioning.ideascale.com/a/dtd/What-causes-the-structural-abnormalities-that-cause-sleep-apnea-and-how-can-they-be-prevented/90728-32287

Re: support research on sleep apnea

In modern, industrial societies the majority of people have some degree of malocclusion. I have seen those case studies in rural Kentucky. They clearly traced a big increase in malocculusion to the opening of grocery stores. I hope your project gets approved and I have voted for it earlier. Thanks ...

Re: support research on sleep apnea

you say that diet is "associated" with 'abnormal' development but don't go into real or proven details about it... ?? Here is some more explanation of the reasons why most researchers who have looked into this topic have concluded that diet is the most likely cause of the changes to jaw structure (...

No, the opposite. It is lack of breastfeeding that puts kids at higher risk of developing sleep apnea. Here is some more info about that:

Re: support research on sleep apnea

In the photo on the left, the young girl has a poorly developed jaw and that is abnormal. In the photo on the right, her jaw has been corrected more to the normal with orthodontics. http://www.dotterdental.com/ortho_child_jaw_sm.jpg Believe me when I tell you that my jaw is abnormal and my teeth ar...

Re: support research on sleep apnea

Ok.. I've also done more thinking and reading, and while I still believe genetics is responsible for the anatomy we're born with, I also realize it's possible to change some things depending on what we do or don't do when young. Which I suppose is why orthodontists are cleaning up. And that how (& ...

Re: support research on sleep apnea

And I suggest you actually talk to an orthopedic or ENT surgeon about your jaw theories because you might get a surprise. Seriously. Before you spread any more half baked stuff. There actually is a significant minority of sleep specialists and ENT doctors who are talking about this. Here are some c...
