I am staggered by the suggestions of replacing masks evey 3 to 6 months. Here, in Australia, the Comfort Gel costs $235 AUD and the Activa $235 AUD, with almost no benefit payable for replacements. As I am not aware of my airways being irritated I will continue using only distilled water and would, with respect, suggest making up saline receipes at home only be undertaken under advice obtained due to a real problem of irritation being diagnosed.

It might be more relevant to ask, if and when person diagnosed with emphysema smoked and if and when they stopped smoking. However, hopefully any one needing CPAP does not smoke.
