S9 VPAP Auto - Can it auto turn on just by breathing in?
Husband has had his first PAP machine, an S9 VPAP auto, a week now, and I've been tinkering with the settings every couple of nights to improve his quality of sleep. One setting the hubby said the DME programmed in was where it turned on automatically just by breathing into the mask. Apparently I ch...

Re: How long will a machine last?
just watch out for units owned in a smoking household. It can be very difficult to remove those odors. Thanks for the reminder. I didn't even think of that and we are both incredibly sensitive to smoke. I didn't realize how many machine backups folks have, not just backup masks. Makes me more amena...

How long will a machine last?
Evaluating whether to get a "gently used" auto bipap or a new one. How long can one conservatively expect a machine to last before wanting to or having to replace it?

Re: Newbie prescribed APAP w/ pressure 6-17. Machines?
I think I can get the doc to give us a script for a BiPaP. If that is the case, I'll file insurance because I assume the allowable cost will likely be cheaper than paying new out of pocket. (I don't think I'm confident enough as a newbie to source a machine 2nd hand and troll craigslist, etc. just y...

Re: Any hybrid mask (or glasses wearing) users w/ high pressure?
Pugsy, I suppose I believed the old wives tale until realizing just now that there are folks with even higher pressure successfully using a nasal pillow. Good to know! Hubby had a septoplasty last fall that made nose breathing easier for him, but also a uvulaplasty that utterly failed and closed his...

Re: Newbie prescribed APAP w/ pressure 6-17. Machines?
then we would assume that using apap it would like go up there and stay up there and that puts him in the category where a bilevel machine would probably offer substantial exhale relief EPR -- this info is enormously helpful. Thank you! One wonders why a doctor wouldn't consider this. thank you als...

Any hybrid mask (or glasses wearing) users w/ high pressure?
Hubby just got his titration study done. At a pressure of 15, they resolved the apnea and prescribed an APAP with pressure setting 6-17. He is a nose and mouth breather, wear glasses, and likes to be on his Ipad before drifting to sleep. Of the full face masks at the Dr.'s sleep center, only 2 fit. ...

Newbie prescribed APAP w/ pressure 6-17. Machines?
Husband just got titration study done. He needed a pressure of 15 at the study and the doc gave a script for an APAP with a pressure setting of 6-17. We are going to pay for everything out of pocket one way or another since our deductable is ridiculously high. So, I'm trying to set hubby up for succ...

Re: Newbie w High deductable - bother with local DME?
$5000 is the in-network deductible, out of pocket max is higher! (I know, high, but we have an individual policy). Good thing is that the original sleep study was and the titration study will be covered 100%. not even a copay. PAP machine, however, I realize will be 100% out of pocket, at least for ...

Newbie w High deductable - bother with local DME?
Newbie here with a $5000 annual deductable which just reset. Is it even worth it to visit with a DME locally after our titration study? Or just go online and get what we want given our budget? I guess I will price out what the allowable charge is on various machines just to see if the DME is cheaper...

Re: Ensuring we have a good center for titration study
Thanks for the helpful comments and the link to the blog. A follow up question: If there is only one machine at the tritation, how does the center know/decide to give an Rx for a CPAP vs. APAP vs. BiPap? Or is it always an open Rx for the patient to decide and somehow figure out what is best via tri...
