Re: High Respiratory rate = Better sleep?
What does your overview graph look like? All three of those graphs show generally faster respiration rates than I am used to seeing. Here's mine: http://i.imgur.com/Ho55BXp.png You need all of your sleep stages -- too little rem sleep is bad, but so is too much. http://i.imgur.com/XWTqGFO.png?1 You...

Re: High Respiratory rate = Better sleep?
I always thought the lower the respiratory rate, the better (i.e. "healthier"), but that was just an assumption that may very well be wrong. Is one better than the other? You might be right, and I wonder if I worked out for a few months I would see the respiratory rate drop and steady out. I wonder...

Re: High Respiratory rate = Better sleep?
The 95% resp rate is not as representative as the median, but there is a reduced respiratory rate from graph 1 to graph 3, and an inverse relationship to tidal volume. You breath deeper, when you breath slower. Whatever works is fine, but I don't know how you'd influence your respiration rate or vo...

Re: High Respiratory rate = Better sleep?
I attribute the high, ragged respiration rate to REM sleep, and the slower, steadier breathing to NREM sleep. When I'm awake, the rate drops further. Both NREM and REM are part of the normal cycle, but I can imagine that getting a higher proportion of REM would be more restful in the long run. Than...

High Respiratory rate = Better sleep?
So I have been on my CPAP for about 3.5 months now, 2.5 of which I have been at my prescribed pressure. I was prescribed a pressure of 16, however I had to scale it up due to the difficulty of adjusting. I have spent quite a bit of time in Sleepyhead, and tried to log the days when I felt noticeably...

Choosing a pillow...
So now that I over a month in to my treatment, I am starting to become very curious on the various non-CPAP related things that can improve my sleep. After considering a number of possible 'upgradeable' items, I settled on a new pillow. My current pillow is at least 10 years old (my wife says they c...

APAP- Help understanding how pressure changes are determined
I currently have an Airsense 10 Autoset with a prescription of 16. I am considering changing this over to the autoset mode, just to see if this can provide some relief from the wind tunnel I am in all night. My apnea is much worse on my back, and I can maintain an AHI of less than 1 by sleeping on m...

Re: Just diagnosed - Ecstatic!
One last additional note: After multiple calls (borderline harassment) to the sleep lab and DME, they were able to get me in for an appointment to pick up my device on Tuesday.

Re: Just diagnosed - Ecstatic!
I don't know how many this affects but I will put what I know in about my insurance. I have BCBS of Illinois but I live in Michigan. My BCBS with Illinois requires 3 months of rental with exception to our right purchase if it is a replacement machine. My issue came to light with the new machine, my...

Re: Just diagnosed - Ecstatic!
Thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement. I completed my titration this past weekend, and determined the pressure needed to keep my airway open is 16. I have also been working/hassling the DME and my sleep lab to push the Rx and order along, however it looks like it will be a couple we...

Just diagnosed - Ecstatic!
After complaining for over ten years of fatigue and brain fog (along with numerous other sleep apnea symptoms!) I was finally diagnosed as having sleep apnea during a home sleep study. This is after a long road of being treated for depression, ADHD, and anxiety issues; all of which lead to various s...
