Re: DC power cable for Dreamstation
Sleepgeek's suggestion is a good one: spend the $30 + shipping to the UK to order this cable from cpap.com. That seems pricey, but the cable quality is very high and cpap.com is a reputable seller. If, like me, you need to remove the power end that comes with this cable, let me know what kind of plu...

Re: CPAP Class Action Lawsuit Settlement
I got paper notices about the proposed settlement and am trying to sign up for the payments. I never returned either recalled machine for the paltry $25 they had offered; I disposed of both machines so that no one would unknowingly start using them. Under this settlement, I still qualify for a "devi...

Re: Philips Dreamstation 12V power supply
I don't know if it's a chip; but the Dreamstation 1 can sure tell when you're not using THEIR 12-volt power cord! Dreamstation 2 probably works the same way. Fortunately, the Philips 12-volt cord is only about $30. It's super well-made; but you may have to modify it depending on your battery. Read m...

Re: Interesting issue with CPAP and a battery bank
I've had similar problems with other battery packs. Some are designed to shut down when very little power is being drawn -- to preserve the life of the battery. But if it shuts down when powering your CPAP, then that particular battery is NOT FOR YOU! There are other battery packs don't have this "f...

Re: DC power cable for Dreamstation
Well, I bought the Philips shielded DC power cord for about $30. The 22K resister is inside the cigarette-lighter plug, along with a tiny green power indicator. I didn't want to use their plug, as I have a different system for supplying 12 volts DC. So I surgically removed the resister and power ind...

Re: DC power cable for Dreamstation
Yes - this must be the problem! While browsing the Respironics recall thread, I ran across similar advice, posted by Lane101 a couple of months ago: "You can use the same 12 volt battery that works with your System One with the DS1 if you buy a Philips shielded DC power cord. It will plug into a 12v...

DC power cable for Dreamstation
FINALLY, I received a refurbished Dreamstation to replace my recalled System One machine. The Dreamstation works fine when its power supply is plugged into a regular 120-volt power outlet. The main reason I bought the System One machine back in the day was that it could run off a 12-volt battery dir...

Re: Melatonin and Sleep apnea
A few companies sell melatonin in a 'sustained release' version. That's what I use, because I rarely have trouble falling asleep -- but getting BACK to sleep after 5 or 6 hours is always touch-and-go. The 'sustained release' version makes it a little easier for me to fall back asleep; no guarantee, ...

Re: OSCAR v1.1.1 is Released
I just installed the latest release. I don't know what's going on 'under the hood,' but now the daily number of hours my CPAP was turned on is totaled correctly! Before, it didn't add my typical afternoon nap time to my regular night's sleep. Now it does -- so I can compare my total hours of sleep s...

Re: Inexplicable fragmented sleep
The main issue is i can't have a good night sleep because i keep waking up 4-5 times a night (always in rem cycle, i wake up remembering the dream) This sleep quality makes me feel like a zombie all day. You're assuming that your zombie-like feelings are caused by waking up 4-5 times a night. They ...

Re: Medigap
This is an interesting topic as I have to decide whether I want Kaiser or Medigap Supplement and if so which Medigap plan . If your surgery is in hospital, does the $2200 include the $1360 Part A deductible? In their promotional materials, United American clearly states that Medicare deductibles fo...

Re: Medigap
Given what the difference in premium was between the full plan F and the high deductible plan F (less than $40/month $480/year) I considered plan F to be the better option. With a difference in the premiums of only $480/year, I would have reached the same conclusion! I've only priced the difference...

Re: Medigap
in my case I knew there was a surgery that I had to decide on within a year that would have presented me with a definite minimum co-pay of at least $10,000. Can you explain a little more? I'm assuming you have Medicare Part B, and the discussion is about supplementing that coverage with a Medigap p...

Re: Medigap
I have heard that the full Plan F (there is a high deductible version that is somewhat cheaper, but I don't know what the deductible is) will be phased out in a few years. My high-deductible Plan F has a $2,200 annual deductible. That sounds really high, but to date I've never come even CLOSE to pa...

Re: has anyone seen people using CPAP on long haul flights?
I've only used CPAP on one overnight flight, and had a bad experience, as I described here: http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=112771 My sleep doc was really perplexed by this incident. After a battery of tests turned up nothing, he's left with the conclusion that my fainting must have been...
