How to set Max IPAP and Max EPAP on VPAP

Background: after unsuccessful APAP for years (not able to sleep more than 3-4hrs with mask, lots of flow limitations), and ENT suggesting UPPP and palatal surgery, I got a BiPAP off of craigslist. Resmed Aircurve 10 VPAP. I have also been told by my ENT I have expiratory palatal collapse, so the id...

Re: Fluttering of airway

I've felt that same feeling, I believe, because it's hard to describe. It's like a flutter in my throat as I'm falling asleep. I don't use ramp, just figured it was another new thing to deal with since starting cpap. Interesting. What's your pressure? Maybe fluttering is not the best way for me to ...

Re: Fluttering of airway

Often when I am falling asleep I will experience a fluttering of the airway going from open to closed, at the rate of like 10 times a second for a couple seconds before I wake up completely. It seems to happen in light sleep when I am semi conscious, though it may happen in deeper sleep and I am ju...

Re: Arousals and tiredness. Sleep test attached.

Just curious about why you're asking specifically... what are you thinking about re this? I'm asking because I'm trying to determine whether sleep disordered breathing (SDB) is causing my symptoms, or if it's something else. I've seen a couple ENT/sleep docs, first one said he thought my tiredness ...

Re: Arousals and tiredness. Sleep test attached.

Do apneas/hypopneas usually result in arousals for most of you? Do most of you with OSA have low REM? yes, otherwise you'd die from apneas. Of course, that makes sense. I guess where I was going with that question is: do some people experience arousals while in REM and remain in REM? Or do arousals...

Arousals and tiredness. Sleep test attached.

I'm trying to understand why I'm so tired and fatigued despite my low numbers. Polysomnogram below. REM at 6%, while the normal range is 19-37%. I had about 100 arousals through the night. Seems like a lot to me. But many of you have AHI of 20,30,50+. I'm wondering what percentage of those result in...

Re: Do mask leaks affect flow limitation?

Yes leaks can cause arousals both from the mask seal leaks and mouth leaks. You may not remember them but they can disturb your sleep. Do you note any mouth breathing or just feel it around the mask? The liner might help with mask seal but if it is mouth breathing you might have to look at other so...

Re: Do mask leaks affect flow limitation?

Ok. You can just reread the instructions later for next time. As far as your original question reguarding the flow limitationa being affected by leaks. Both Pugsy and PaleRider commented on that. And Pugsy stated if it was going to affect them the leak rate would need to be pretty high. Your leak r...

Re: Do mask leaks affect flow limitation?

If you do a screenshot like I described above it should give you the left side and the graphs together. This is one where I uploaded to imgur after signing in to my free account and following the instructions in the TNET link. http://i.imgur.com/pPms38rl.png If you notice you can click on it and it...

Re: Do mask leaks affect flow limitation?

Thanks, very helpful. What do you make of these? A couple short segments from one night. Please not that each are a different scale in terms of time period. My AHI for the night was 1.95 however as usual I am very tired/fatigued/unrested the next day. http://i.imgur.com/ZF2itke.jpg http://i.imgur.co...
