Re: Severe Sinus from Humidifier on Cpap

You must take local conditions into account with a humidifier... if it's suddenly dry there because you're using central heat you may need more hum., but if you're in e.g. Seattle in spring, you'll obviously need none (or relatively). You have to go by what's ambient in your house along with weathe...

Re: Severe Sinus from Humidifier on Cpap

I have been a CPAP patient for two to three years. About two months ago I started having severe allergy symptoms--sneezing, watery eyes, nose, going through Kleenex constantly. I do have allergies but a single Zyrtec has kept me on the straight and narrow for many years. I also have Flonase but it d...

Re: nasal congestion

I have severe allergies. It doesn't matter what the humidity is set at for me I'm always congested. Have you consisted see an allergy doctor I have seen allergists in the past. Quite frankly, the Zyrtec seems to help me pretty well. I breathe pretty freely and now that I have lowered the humidity o...

Yes! I lowered the humidity down to 2 and I'm much better. I think if I need an occasional saline spray I'll be fine. My next hurdle is once the weather here gets cold and the heat (very dry) is on even with a room humidifier. Steve

Re: nasal congestion

You mentioned nasal sprays but not nasal rinses - maybe try that? I use one every day (PM me for exact regime) before I apply my corticosteroid spray (Veramyst). I found if I rinse and spray anywhere near bed time it makes me more congested/runny nosed so I do both first thing. I don't know anythin...

Re: nasal congestion

Unless you're in the very west part of ME, I'd think the last thing you'd want is more humidity (right now), speaking from a New Brunswick viewpoint here! I lowered it back down to 2 last night and things seem to be much better this AM. Still congestion but I'm not runny and stuffed up. I think the...

I had used it during the fall and winter at 6 so I figured I'd be all set, but I will try coming down and gradually changing it if necessary.

Re: nasal congestion

My congestion is severe after I've slept all night; I can sleep fine with the mask on. I did have the humidity turned down to 1 or 2 before I increased it to 5 where it is now. Should I go back to 2 and see how that is? Sometimes finding the right balance of moisture to keep our nasal mucosa takes ...

Re: Newbie struggling to find a mask

Hi. I don't know if this will help you but I used to use a full face mask when I started out two years ago. It took me 9 months of no help until I saw my doctor. I had air leaks, claustrophobia with this huge mask on my face; I think I feared getting into bed with this beast! My doctor immediately c...

Re: nasal congestion

In general summer requires less humidity than winter but it depends where you are and your climate. Does your congestion seem to increase while you're on the mask or decrease? Humidity can work either way, although most people (not me) do better with more. Maybe run some simple one night tests - hi...

Re: New CPAP User Struggling in First Week

I understand what you're saying! I am not a doctor but I started two years ago. After I had my sleep study I was talking to the sleep therapy company representative and mentioned that I tend to sleep with my mouth open (who knows if I did or not?!) She thought she was doing me a favor and gave me a ...

Re: nasal congestion

You may have begun mouth breathing when asleep, making you feel dry, but increasing humidity will cause more congestion and then more dryness because you'll have to mouth breathe. Have you considered trying a FF mask (you didn't say what you are using)? Hi Julie. I use a Mirage FX nasal mask which ...

nasal congestion

Hi everybody. This is my first post. I have been a CPAP patient for two years now and after finally using the right mask I sleep very well, thank you. During the winter I learned to increase the humidity on my ResMed machine which seemed to help. I turned it way down in the spring but then back up t...
