Re: What can you buy without a prescription?
About 2 weeks ago I called Direct Home Medical to order a spare Pilairo Q mask. I told them that I had a doctor's prescription but they told me they did not require a copy. So I ordered a complete mask along with spare nasal pillows. I received my order within a week. Hope this info is useful for yo...

Re: New CPAP - Being ripped off
So a lot of these insurance things are still going over my head, but I think part of the problem is I live in Canada so the insurance works different from the states. I have what is called extended health insurance (through Sun Life) that covers me for extended expenses above what normal free healt...

Re: Just Diagnosed with Severe Sleep Apnea
Hi Worried Daddy, I know it is surprising and somewhat discouraging to get a diagnosis of sleep apnea. It really stunned me. However, with proper CPAP therapy you could be symptom-free. That means you would not stop breathing during the night, and have the risk of high blood pressure, stroke or hear...

Re: Pilairo Q Nasal pillows mask
I like the Pilairo Q. I use the single headstrap and it holds the mask in place. Also, I found that going to a lighter weight hose reduced the pulling on the mask. It took awhile to get use to it, as I would feel some leaking on the side of my face. Once I watched the company's video on how to wear ...

Re: is sleep apnea considered a medical alert?
When I was at the sleep clinic last week to see another doctor for a second opinion, he told me the results of my sleep study tests were worse than the one I had done for the first doctor which my GP had sent to him. While in the waiting room, I saw brochures for Medic Alert . Since sleep apnea is t...

Re: trouble adjusting-- anxiety and noise =(
I find the Pilairo Q nasal pillow mask to be very quiet. It has a filter on the exhalation holes, and it seems to work as a muffler.

Re: Recommendation for Nasal Pillow
I'm having good success with the F&P Pilairo Q , whether sleeping on my side or my back. I like that it is so lightweight and the bridge is wide enough to distribute any pressure along the upper lip, instead of just one tiny spot like the Respironics Nuance pro gel which I had tried. Best of luck wi...

Re: For the CPAP manufacturers – a few suggestions
One other thing: why can't manufacturers make CPAP machines look really nice. When I look at the Phillips Respironics S1 with the hose attached, I can't help but wonder if this black box thing wouldn't better belong under the hood of a car? Wouldn't there be a way to disguise these CPAP machines int...

Re: Questions about study and need for cpap
I was in a similar situation with mild sleep apnea after I did the sleep study, but when the doctor double checked my oxygen levels at 75% during the test, he changed the diagnosis to Mild to Moderate sleep apnea . I have done a couple of trials with the auto CPAP machines; it is hard to tell if it ...

Re: suggestions for mask - I have jaw pain?
Thanks Jencat, With the Pilairo Q, I was provided with the single strap that goes around the back of the head, elastic and non-adjustable. I guess when the elastic gets too worn, I can replace the strap. The P10 could be an alternative to look at; I appreciate that you listed all the masks you tried...

Re: For the CPAP manufacturers – a few suggestions
A VERY BASIC SUGGESTION The power supply or black adapter between the little wire coming out of the Remstar and the regular wire that goes into the power outlet - well, that thing is very heavy. It reminds me of the adapter I had for my first laptop about 10 years ago. Now, the adapter for my Macbo...

Thanks Pugsy, I was able to get my info in the right place with your help. I went to User Control Panel , then selected Profile which gave me the choice Edit Equipment . Then, I saw the box for Comments . I will need to edit things again soon as my equipment is a loaner, and I have not found the Sys...

Re: suggestions for mask - I have jaw pain?
Thank you for the replies JenCat and SleepyStar. I was already wearing a night guard to keep my jaw balanced and aligned prior to being introduced to my CPAP machine. I told the DME that I had had very bad jaw pain for many years, and she had to look for a mask where the straps would not touch my ja...

suggestions for mask - I have jaw pain?
I have had Temporomadibular Disorder (TMD) a form of jaw pain for the past 25 years. It was brought on from an adverse reaction to a medication where my tongue would uncontrollably push on my bottom teeth and cause very bad jaw pain (tardive dyskenia). It took a long time to get a handle on this pro...

Difference between Remstar 550HS & 560HS? help
Hi, I guess that I have to say that I am a pre-newbie, as I do not have a CPAP machine yet. I am doing trial #3 with the sleep clinic. So far, my pulmonologist has recommended an Auto CPAP. I am looking at the Respironics System One REMstar Auto A-Flex with humidifier (as that is what I used for my ...
