Re: Type 3 sleep study question.

Your breathing patterns change when you sleep... unless I misunderstand this (what is a type 3 study)?. home sleep study without an EEG . basically similar to inlab study but they dont have an EEG attached This has a chest band and pulse oximeter, right? If so, I assume they are basing the info on ...

Type 3 sleep study question.

How does a type 3 sleep study know when you fell asleep? I had one done last october and it gives me a sleep efficiency time. basically time spent sleeping/time with the machine on. If there are no EEG what is the machine using to detect I am asleep?

Re: Low AHI, only hypopneas, could CPAP be worthwhile anyway?

I'm wondering about the prescribed 8-20 pressure. I don't know enough about hypopneas, but that sounds like a generic range without much forethought to your situation. John Yea, I was wondering that too. So far the machine has never gone over 12 pressure and it's been 9 or under 95% of the time. se...

Re: Low AHI, only hypopneas, could CPAP be worthwhile anyway?

What is your body weight, height, neck circumference. I'm skinny (5 foot 11, 140 pounds) and in my late 20s male. Neck circumference 14 inches/35.5 cm. I have a small jaw and snore occasionally especially when drunk (haven't been drinking since I've gotten the sleep study done). Respiratory effort ...

Re: What mask to try. Keep taking mine off.

Going to sleep and removing the mask at sometime during the night and not remembering it is one thing. The tape trick sometimes helps. Not being able to go to sleep and then saying to hell with it and taking the mask off and then going to sleep is another thing. The tape trick won't help because th...

Re: What mask to try. Keep taking mine off.

Let me go find my handcuffs. Did you sleep through the mask removal? No i was pretty aware what I was doing, but i got tired of waiting for sleep to come after 1.5 hours and as soon as the mas was off lights out. I wish someone would put the mask on me once I was asleep lol. I bet that would work f...

Re: Low AHI, only hypopneas, could CPAP be worthwhile anyway?

I had a sleep study done a month ago: 5 hours 30min asleep without CPAP: - AHI of 7.8 - Only one apnea, 42 hypopnea events most of which lying on my back - Oxygen saturation never dropped under 90% - 116 micro arousals or 21 per hour It was a split night study but there was not quite enough time to...

Re: What mask to try. Keep taking mine off.

You may find the Whisp along with a chin strap might help once you get your pressures and ramp adjusted. I use the Whisp ,chin strap and tape my mouth I sleep very well. Also my hubby has a broken nose and has always had to sleep pushing his nose to the side to breath at night. Since he started and...

Re: I'm new. I think I have apnea. Advice?

Update ... It feels like a lot has happened since I last posted. Pugsy found a nice ResMed S9 on Craigslist in my area and also donated a nice pillow nasal mask. She helped me set up the machine and gave me feed back on my report. I really appreciate it. Thank you Pugsy, and thank you to everyone w...

Re: suggestions for a teenager

Thank you for all the suggestions. I am going to let him decide, he is 18. If he wants to try it I will setup with 6-10 and see if he notices any change over the weekend. He has AP tests this week, so would love to see him more alert. Get a sleep study. Had you gone through the insurance the first ...

Re: What mask to try. Keep taking mine off.

When you use the ramp feature the pressure starts out at 4 cm and EPR (your exhale relief) doesn't even work at 4 cm because the machine can't go lower than 4 cm. Looks like EPR is set to 3 and you can't get the full benefit 3 cm reduction until your pressure hits 7 cm because the machine can't dro...

Re: What mask to try. Keep taking mine off.

You might try taping your mask straps to your cheeks so that when you take the mask off in the middle of the night the discomfort from the tape pulling on the skin might wake you up enough to stop the mask removal. There's no guarantee that a different mask won't have the same thing happen to it if...
