Re: To users of Rx Provigil (Modafinil)
You might find it very underwhelming, for all the hype it gets. It leaves you in a state of "physically awake but still mentally tired"--you're not nodding off, but you can feel unnaturally "propped up" (like your brain knows you really ought to be resting it) on days where you're very tired. This ...

Re: Modafinil: the last resort?
I am currently on it. My PAP data was great. Now I will say I am going to be tested for narcolepsy in June because my sleep doc still thinks that is a possibility for me so our situation isn't 100% the same. I will say I was told to take it everyday. Although I have read on here people feel like the...

Yep, I've had several procedures and they used propofol (even before I was diagnosed).
No issues. Feels pretty good.

Re: I'm new does dreaming mean I don't have it that bad?
I used to have wonderful, vivd dreams that were like fantasy novels. Made up worlds, characters, and plots. No choking, drowning, ect like some folks describe..no frequent night wakenings. I actually really enjoyed them.
Now I can't ever seem to remember my dreams. I miss them a lot actually.

Re: Travel Question
My DME told me I could leave my modem attached. If it is somewhere it can call, it will...otherwise it just waits until it gets a signal it can use. For the US flights you can have the CPAP bag as a third carry on if it is just medical equipment. You'll have to check the other airlines' policies for...

Re: Deemed untreatable
Hmmm... glad gfm chimed in on his original post. It sounds like he stuck around, and even if he didn't get into the discussion here he has been reading and hopefully reading other threads as well. I can say from personal experience that you can think you gave it 4 months of an honest, good try. But,...

Re: using cpap machine to dry out hose
The first time I was on CPAP 6 years ago I lived in FL...super humid area...my hose grew stuff. :/ Now, that being said I had been sent home from my sleep study with a machine, non-heated hose, and a mask. Was not told anything about cleaning anything....so my humidifier tank also grew some things b...

Re: Day Studies/Commercial Truck Drivers
Very good news!! There is some wiggle room as to what providers "can" require...like I said the company I know requires compliance and an overnight on CPAP to prove it's working. I see others want the day time test. The DOT allows for both. If other commercial drivers find this thread: the key is to...

Re: Interesting dilemma afoot with my DME
This is very interesting. Medical billing is a complicated sport...it is why people go to college and earn a degree for it. I can think of a few possibilities of what is going on here. 1. The DME sold you a machine at an unauthorized discount. There are rules for how you can bill for services and yo...

Re: help me understand what he's goin thru
Another thing...he might not have a clue how to answer you yet. Honestly, before if you asked me how I felt or what was wrong I just knew I was tired and I felt like crap. It was hard to describe it further than that. I had total brain fog. It was like living life through molasses. I've only been on...

Re: CPAP pillows
Yep. I am a side sleeper. My mask fit ok and I didn't have leaks but I couldn't quite get my head over as far as I wanted for comfort. The first special pillow I bought didn't work out well for what I needed. I then bought a different one with a different style cutout and it has made a ton of differ...

Re: Day Studies/Commercial Truck Drivers
You're right. The folks most affected are drivers that have been in the road and chose it as a life career. They have good driving records but a life on the road is hard and they tend to have multiple health issues. Now they are an age where they can't retire yet but are being told they can't do the...

Re: Day Studies/Commercial Truck Drivers
Yep, that is correct. A patient needs some sort of objective test to show that not only are they complaint with CPAP therapy (which can be downloaded from the machine) but that the CPAP therapy is working. A provider can require a MWT, MSLT (which for those, you generally must do a PSG the night bef...

Re: Sleep Study-Done, now, I wait
I was actually in bed about 7hrs. I made two trips to the bathroom and according to the tech, I finally fell asleep shortly after 3AM and was awakened at 6AM. No, I was not tried on a CPAP, at all. The tech said I did not fall asleep soon enough for a possible split study. He said I would be coming...

Re: Day Studies/Commercial Truck Drivers
The DOT standards have not changed...it is just now the DOT is requiring providers that do the exam to take classes on the standards and pass a certification test in order to be able to do the exams. Basically...they are making us actually learn the rules. The rule book is about 300 pages and before...
