Re: Newbie would like to hear success stories, please.
I was diagnosed in June of 2006 after a lifetime of just learning to live with being sleepy all the time. I figured I was just one of those people with naturally low energy. My AHI was just barely high enough to qualify as OSA, but I dutifully went on CPAP therapy right away, as my doctor recommende...

Interesting article on OSA & obesity
http://junkfoodscience.blogspot.com/2008/08/is-bariatric-surgery-really-cure-for.html It supports something my doctor told me -- that OSA isn't caused by obesity, as so many people seem to believe. However, if you have OSA, being overweight or obese can make your symptoms worse. Hope everybody's doi...

things have changed
I haven't been on the forum in a long time, and I notice there are now 'add friend' and 'add foe' buttons on the profiles. Seriously, who adds foes? It's funny, though. And I dig the Cpapwiki. Hope everybody's doing well.

Re: "Men of a certain age"
I just wish the CPAP user was the actor with all the young girlfriends, not the chubby guy with the wife who tells him, "you know you're supposed to wear your mask." It would give a more accurate picture of the life most of us lead. Agreed. It's bad enough we gotta wear a mask to sleep, now we have...

Re: simplicty mask swap? my medium for your small
OK, I got my hands on a small. We'll see how it works. Meanwhile, I'm selling my brandspanking new medium mask on CpapAuction for cheap! Less than you would pay for the return insurance at Cpap.com (sorry, guys): http://www.cpapauction.com/auction-listing/74300/simplicity-nasal-cpap-mask-with-headge...

simplicty mask swap? my medium for your small
Hey all,
Just purchased the simplicty mask in the medium version, and it seems like it will work for me but I think this medium is going to be too big. Does anyone have a simplicity small mask, newish, that they'd be willing to swap me for?

Free to good home: foam & seal for F&P HC406
Cleaning out my CPAP supplies I found an unused foam & seal kit for a Fisher & Paykel HC406 nasal mask. I also have two additional foam seals that I'll stick in with them. Bag was opened but they have never been used. Free to good home -- keep them out of the landfill! Message me your address and th...

Re: Poll: GERD and Sleep Apnea
I got the GERD diagnosis first, then the OSA diagnosis about a year later. Unlike some other posters, I find that the CPAP helps my GERD symptoms. If I'm having an attack, I can put on the mask and take a nap, and wake up 'all better.' I think the air pressure pushes the acid back down into my stoma...

'Zest' mask from F & P
Has anybody used this mask, and can tell me how it compares to the F & P 407?

request for card reader example
Could someone who uses a Smartcard reader for the Resmed machines please post (or send me, in private msg) and image of what the data looks like that you get out of it? I'm trying to decide if it's worth buying one. Does it record arousals? Or does it just plot the AHI over the sleep period? Thanks ...

I think it depends on what type of apnea you have -- if you've had symptoms all your life, over a range of different weights (like me), chances are good that your apnea is a result of genetic structure and won't be improved by weight loss. If you are of the type that never had a sleepy day in your l...

Re: Sleep doc told me oxygen desaturations were "insign
I purchased a Nonin "Wrist-Ox" pulse oximeter with nVision software several months ago and discovered I was still having lots of oxygen desaturations into the high, mid and even low 80s. This is despite using my CPAP diligently, never skipping a night. I saw my sleep doctor today and brought with m...

As antihistamines go, Benadryl is one of the safest, despite all that hair-raising stuff on the label. I've heard of it being used off-label as a sleep medication, although, as another poster noted, some of us react to it differently. Also, the sleepy side effect tends to wear off over time -- if yo...

shameless promotion -- Mirage Micro on CPAPauction
Hi all, Just wanted to let you guys know, I tried the Mirage Micro mask, and it didn't work out for me, so I'm selling it on CPAP Auction. Like an idiot, I didn't spring for the return insurance. It wasn't a total loss, because I am keeping the headgear to use, but if you'd like to try the Micro, th...
