I some how managed to stop my "Smart Card" (is that an oxymoron?) and now it is no longer recording data. I went to card utilities and requested it to erase data and start over, it didn't erase data that was on it and stopped recording new from that date. Where did I go wrong?

It sounds like your driver signing is set too restrictive. Right click on your "My Computer" icon and go to properties. Click on the "Hardware" tab.
